Which Pokemon have the best names?

So, there are plenty of threads about which Pokemon are people's favorites. Either because they're useful, or they look cool, or so on.

But one often-overlooked part of Pokemon are the names. The names of the Pokemon are, in many ways, just as important as the the Pokemon's appearance.

So, which Pokemon have the best names? Remember, this is JUST about how much you like a Pokemon's name, not necessarily how much you like the Pokemon in general.

Personally, I've always thought that Squirtle had a really, really good name. I mean, his name tells you everything you need to know about him, and I personally think it's kinda clever.

Other names I like are Blaziken, Deoxys, and Darkrai.

Charizard is the best pokemon name I've yet seen (though I barely know anything about anything post-gen-3).

Second place would probably go to Voltorb.

I would have thought it was "excavate" not "Excalibur" but I could be wrong.

I can't think of anything specific atm.
It was pretty cool though when I found out about the whole legendary bird trio being numbered in spanish.

Lugia, because it's short, simple, sounds great and since you can't immediately know what it's referencing, it has a mysterious aspect to it.

Also Ho-Oh, simply because it teaches kids their first two Japanese words (for those of you wondering, "Ho" means fire and "Oh" means king. So "fire king" or "king of fire," which is appropriate for a phoenix).

Yeah a Pokemon named Floatzel just told me that you are living in the past. Of course he also told me that you should give the newer games a try. You will realize what a broken mess the first gen was. Floatzel has spoken!!!!!!!!!!

Hydreigon is literally the brutal pokemon! Which is awesome. But I'd say the most clever names are Abra Kadabra and Alakazam

I'd say Ekans and Arbok deserve mention simply because back when you were a kid, the realization of what their names actually were was probably mind-blowing.

I always loved the name Skarmory, it just sounds so BA. But I'm also partial to the original legendary trio - Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, mostly because the latter part of their name is a Spanish number, and is the order that you (should) encounter them in. First is ArticUNO, then its ZapDOS, then MolTRES. I love it.

As with others in this thread, I like Tyranitar (someone with that name walks in the room, shit's gonna go down), Typhlosion, Aerodactyl and Volcarona (the Pokemon itself is fucking badass, too, best Bug).

My favourite, however, is Hydreigon. It doesn't sound that threatening, but you realise the name is an amalgation of Hydra, Drei, and Dragon. Hydreigon is a Dragon Pokemon with three[footnote]Drei being three in German.[/footnote] heads, and hydras have multiple heads. It's a cool name.

Plus, as someone said, Hydreigon is the Brutal Pokemon.

Typlosion, serious how does Typhoon and explosion suppose to be link to a biped weasel/ wolverine/ badger creature?

Tyranitar just cause it's the word Tyrant but made it sound more Dinosaur/ Godzilla like!

Charizaur, the fourth and final evolution of the Charmander pokemon. This awesome dual type Fire/Dragon pokemon also has the Blaze ability, unless you have its hidden ability Levitate.

Now, speaking of dreaming, Kirby, Jigglypuff and I are going on a quest to conquer the world with song. Jigglypuff sings everyone to sleep and then draws on them, they wake up and then Kirby sings and everyone's heads explode. I am there to record everything while being deaf and unable to control the volume level on my recording device.

Yay.

I also find Cloyster an awesome name.

There are plenty of decent sounding names. Absol, Skarmory, Salamence, Arcanine, Poliwrath, Kabuto, Typholsion, Tyranitar, Espeon, Heracross, Masquerain, Dusclops, Carnavine...

But the two stupidest are Geodude and Slowbro. And maybe Lombre. It's a rock and a dude, a slow and a bro, and a lotus and a hombré.

And special mention to Pachirisu, which they just couldn't be bothered finding an English translation for.

Zigzagoon is a pretty good one. Easy to say and the name is easy to remember. A raccoon with Zigzag patterns is always awesome.

Galvantula is smart name, mainly because I had to look up what galvanism is and holy shit was that cool of them to do.

Golurk is a pretty terrific name for a cool looking pokemon. A golem and lurk(referencing the fact that he is a ghost type).

Also, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan (and I guess Hitmontop). It's a mon(ster). It hits things. It's Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. It's a hit-mon-Lee/Chan. (Or... it looks like a spinning top. Yeah, I prefer the original two.)

Exactly this! The Pokemon versions of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee are just epic names!

Also I like Raticate (Eradicate), Eggecute and eggectutor (Execute/executor) and Kangaskhan (Genghis Khan)!
