Which RPG setting do you prefer?

Well, I'd say I'd go for the sci-fi setting because there's more originality.
I mean, Fantasy is great when they create stuff other than just the average Orcs, elves, and dwarfs, and even then, there has to be something ridiculous about something otherwise the series gets boring.
I mean, I know that Orcs, dwarfs and elves are like the norm in fantasy now, but it's gotten to the point to where I read this book called 'orcs' in which it was naming out race after race like the author was just getting his info from a D&D book. Go for originality, make the orcs pig-men like they were used to, or elves back to their mischievous selves, or Dwarfs as accountants or some weird thing like that. Make a straight forward fantasy with one thing goofy and suddenly you have a good fantasy.

OT: I love medieval settings. There's just something about swords and magic that really keeps me happy.
A combination of sci-fi and fantasy: you start off in a world run by magic, and later on you realize that magic is just very advanced nanotechnology. The sparkle and lens flare whenever you cast a spell? Nanites.
Oblivion/ Dragon Age - Fantasy
Fallout 3 - Science fiction
Final Fantasy - Science Fantasy
Oblivion and Fallout aren't both fantasy....

I usually enjoy a more Cyberpunk feel (like Ghost in the Shell) or at least a high tech setting. Magitech is also pretty good (Tales Series) and Post-Apocalypse is good if implemented well (Digital Devil Saga, but Fallout 3 was far too dull and boring).
The only one I really hate is the "Standard Fantasy Setting"/Medieval Setting. Whenever I see a game like Dragon Age Origins or Oblivion I can be sure that the landscape and monster design will be completely uninspired and everyone will talk in a horrifyingly bad British accent. Dragon Quest 8 also counts because although the art was anime-esque, the medieval setting and horrible accents remained.

Sci-fi has the likes of Stargate, Mass Effect, Warhammer 40k and Star wars (though this is really a combo of the two). Hard to beat that.
It's the clear winner in my book. Not to mention your "fantasy" settings, 9 times out of 10, are just ripping off Tolkien. Elves as archers who talk to trees and Dwarves who live under mountains and who like using axes, you say? How original. Still enjoy the genre though. love dragon age and elder scrolls.

I like Sifi in general (KOTOR, Mass Effect, Infinite Space.). The problem is that it constantly has to re invent its self for each game, where as your traditional D&d (aka western rpgs) have more of a built in formula: stat, race,and class, (strength, agility, wisdom, intelligence, personalty,: dwarf, human, elf, orc,: wizard, warrior, rouge, thief,) in short (too late) Science Fiction is harder to get into, but when it's done right is very enjoyable i.e. Kotor and D&d traditional has a better pick-up-and-play value.

You know what would be awesome? A modern day RPG. There is a d20 rulebook for modern RP's, but I think it would be awesome to see an RPG based on it.
Although I love both science-fiction and fantasy, I have been finding myself increasingly leaning towards sci-fi. It just seems a lot more varied whereas fantasy writers have the tendency of following the same archetypes.
