Which to start with? Bioshock 1 or 2?

I have yet to play Bioshock 1.. though have wanted to for a while. My original plan was to wait for the second one to come out (which it now has).. I also realised one of the down points to Bioshock 2 is the familiarity to the first one, but I won't have this fimiliarity if I dive right into the second. My question is though: Would I get more out of Bioshock 2, playing it before the first one? Or would I get more out of Bioshock 1, playing it before the second one?

From what I know of, Bioshock 1 is an absolute sensation (I'm thinking of getting it myself), so I'd go for that one first.

Definitely 1. I haven't played either yet, but my cheapo copy of 1 turns up on Friday and I will definitely play that before moving onto 2.

I can certainly see the appeal of playing the second one first given it's place in chronology.

Seriously?

"Oh, I always recommend playing a story driven games sequel before the original. Always."

Honestly why would you ever do that?

Would ruin the entire experience for you.

On that note, you should definitely watch The Return of the King before Fellowship of the Ring.
It's way better that way.

I re-bought and played 1 on the weekend so I could remember what went on before playing the new one. I'm absolutely loving Bioshock 2, especially as I continued on playing right after finishing 1. Go cop a copy of both!

Geez you dont have to be such pretentious arses about it :I. If you actually think about it, the second one is a different senario than the first, not a continuation. So before you get up on your high horse think about the damn facts

You're not missing much with the first.
Mediocre gunplay. The campaign is comprised of annoying fetch quests and one long escort sequence. Couple that with a forgettable story and a shitty last boss and you're not missing much.
Bioshock was really overrated.
I completelly had forgotten that escort mission....
But no Bioshock 1 wasnt overrated at all

It really was.
It was hailed as one of the best FPS games of all time. The mission structure sucked, the objectives sucked harder. The gunplay was even worse.
Well i disagree on all your point

Why mock around the order of things?

1 first, 2 second, sounds sound.

Anyway, storywise I don't think you'll be unable to play 2 without 1, but I'dd do 1 first for the sensation.
