I've been reading the War of the Worlds lately. I used to listen to the musical by Jeff Waynes and I'd watched the movies. However I'd never got round to reading the book. So yesterday I found a copy of the book and began to read. I finished Book one and I'm planning of reading book two as soon as I pick up my niece from school and get everything settled.
Any I was reading it and I thought I'd recreate one of the Tripods in Blender... Just for a desktop picture. So I looked for some reference images and I noticed many different variations of the tripod from different artists.
So I was wondering to my self... I wonder what the escapists favourite tripod is and why. So that's the subject of this thread. Find a picture of your favourite tripod and tell us why you like it above all others.
Well that's mine. I'd like to know yours.

This is the Tripod image I grew up on. I didn't watch the movies until much later in my life. Instead I only knew of the War of the Worlds through the Jeff Wayne musical. The musical scare the hell out of me as a kid, even more so than any of the movies have managed so far. When ever I think about the martians, this is the image burned into my head. Given the fear the song gave to me as a child, the image is scary to me, frightening.
This version of the Martian is (surprisingly) extremely close to how it was described in the book. Having the guns on it's hand and the basket at the back. The Tripods design is pretty scary too, probably would be scarier to me that the Jeff Wayne Martian if that had not left an impact on me as a child. I think it's one of the better designs. Though sadly because it's been parodied to death and the film wasn't all that brilliant (I think it was good, others don't) the design some times receives a lot of undeserved flack).
Well I didn't like this one. This was probably the original image and it isn't a horrid example. This could have worked, however... Just one thing messes it up. That big Cyclops eye. That eye makes it look friendly and almost cute... Ruining the effect.
Well that's mine. I'd like to know yours.
