You know what would've been another less likely candidate for American President some time in the future? A non-Christian guy. Funny how a supposedly one of the strongest countries always has presidents from the same religion... even when I'm pretty sure there are legal documents about religion not being a part of government.

This isn't true. Bush is a methodist, Obama is a protestant. They are not the same. Everyone was quite shocked when Kennedy, a Catholic, was elected president.

To quote Stephen Colbert, "I believe that everyone has the right to their own religion, be you Hindu, Jewish or Muslim. I believe there are infinite paths to accepting Jesus Christ as your personal savior."

Not to split hairs, but protestant is an umbrella term for any Christian denomination that broke away from the Catholic church. Technically I believe Methodism is also protestant.

Out of pure curiosity, what is Obama's denomination specifically? For some reason I'm guessing Lutheran.

While we're in agreement that no one could do a worse job at being president than Bush, Obama will still have alot of work to do. Economic crisis, 2 wars, if he doesn't do his best to sort these out then I'm afraid the african americans will suffer as well.

If Obama does a poor job or at least doesn't make things better, people will now be able to say "See? Blacks don't make good presidents!" I'm hoping that's not the case, and I hope he lives long enough for us to find out.

Obama does not have to deal with two wars. The are both "police actions" like Vietnam.

In a recent poll, only 8% of people voted for Obama bases on the fact that he was black.

Who gives a flying fuck what colour his skin is, the point is he is the popularly elected leader. As long as he does the job of leading for the people, as he was elected by the people, his race and religion shouldn't matter (unless he started implementing Sharia law or something). A change was necessary and a change has thankfully occured (although McCain sounded 10x better than GWB too).

It's pretty sad that people are that insecure in their own skin that they want to assassinate someone of a different colour.

McCain only sounded better. In the senate, he voted with Bush over 90% of the time. Everything that sounded better was just bullshit.

Uhh, how do you know it was a flood of white supremacists? Don't you think it would have been a flood of virtually EVERYONE talking about how the first African-American president was elected? Some for good? Some for bad?

White supremacists probably use twice the bandwidth of an average user, somehow. Maybe they kept refreshing google's homepage to check it was still white.

Also, it's possible they lied... Personally if I voted for someone based on something ridiculous, such as race alone, I would probably lie...

This would be even more so the case if it was a face to face, or even a phone to phone poll.

I don't know how the poll was taken, but it was done by ABC and there polls are usually fairly accurate.
