No, I don't want dictionary defintions. I want to know who exactly are these people:

The kind of people who inhabit 4chan. The assholes who criticize your every post. The people who speak entirely in profantiy and 1337. Are they some bizarre counterculture?

No. They're bored people, or people who want to fight Scientology without being crushed to a fine paste.

No idea, but they call my house every night. It says so on the T.V. when we get a call. Some little feature Comcast Cable Tv has.

The anonymous are anyone who uses sites like 4chan, 2chan etc where posting is anonymous. By that definition I guess I am one. It's not a hard idea to wrap your head around really.

The first two posts are a specific movement against Scientology. I don't like the cult myself. Based on the research I've done, they're run by a horrible group of people who abuse their followers for money. Do I agree with what Anonymous is doing? Well, I agree with what they say about the cult and I think things should be done about what goes on behind Scientology's doors, but I don't like their methods. Protests like this are largely ineffective in modern culture.
On the rest of the internet, however, it's hard to say if anonymous means anything. How many people just post anonymously so they can be fuckheads? It's hard to say.

Whoa, wait.
Since when do they only inhabit 4chan, and only speak in profanity and 1337speak?
The fuck you talkin' 'bout, Willis?
For the record, I am not only on 4chan, I'm not only posting in profanity and 1337, and I don't criticize every post by everyone.
Oh, and so you all know, I am:

Okay, there are a few sparks of normality and sense in the dark void that is 4chan. I'm talking about in general.

That question is a contradiction in itself and is therefore banned... by me.
Ha! Egoraptor fan?

Anyway, Anon is the legion of people who inhabit 4Chan (and other such sites) where 13 year old acting like 30 year olds and 30 year olds acting like 13 year olds. I have many friends who frequent the site and believe in its teachings, but honestly I think its stupid and pathetic. Yeah sure, some funny memes might come out of the site and sometimes they might troll something that deserves it (sometimes), but they're little more than a group of kids (and men) who have to hide behind anonymity while they harass people. Juvenile to say the least.

They're people who have discovered all the things you could do when you're anonymous. Without fear of retribution or consequence, you can act like a jerk and basically be another person, that's what anonymous is. It would be a stretch to say that they are a 'group' or 'community' because the very essence of being anonymous means that we're all nobody. S anyone can speak from the center.

Don't listen to what Fox or Oprah says about it, they're not a bunch of pedophiles or hackers bent on destroying the world, they're a bunch of random joes who have made the internet their home.

In a nutshell Anonymous is supposed to symbolize the whole "internet collective", that a group of internet denizens could do whatever they want because they have power in the whole group > sum of whole sense. On 4chan it meant trying to take down scientology, breaking into Sarah Palin's email, catching a few pedos, etc.

Nowadays it's basically the banner that all the wannabe Neos flock to. Basically, Anonymous in that sense is dead.

As for the whole insulting thing, everyone loves a lulz even if they won't admit it. That's what being anonymous (the adjective not the proper noun) allows you to do. Be a jerk and get away with it.

Anonymous isn't so much a thing as an idea really... anonymity is the power of the internet. And buddy, this power corrupts. See the internet ****wad theory. You can't touch them because you don't know who they are. That's the point in itself. You don't know if someone is who they claim to be, or will act tomorrow the same way they act today.

The other anonymous is something entirely different... the lawless order of the internet. A logical doublespeak, a sensible oxymoron. It's difficult to describe, and harder to get an opinion on. Are they trolls who do all these things just for the reactions and for the lulz? Or are they vigilantes in total opposition to all the bull out there? Who knows? Something like that.
