I tend to have incredibly eclectic and changing tastes, but here are my current top five.

1. Windows by AwolNation, the melody changes and tonal shifts just make my ears happy.

2. Break the Fall by Laura Welsh, driving drums, soulful lyrics and deep voice singing? What's not to love.

3. Rap God by Eminem, i love the wordplay and fast pace so common in Em songs...Other then that, it just appeals to me. *Shrugs.*

4. No Light, No Light by Florence and the Machine, i gotta admit to having a tiny girl crush on Florence Welch...That voice..

5. September Love A Daft Punk, Earth Wind and Fire mash up...Just go listen to that if you like Mash-ups. Go, now! I'll wait, skip it, if you're not a Mash Up fan.

Because I'm new to forums in general, i don't know how to link videos, ssoo...No links. Sorry, but look stuff up by all means. >.>

There's my favorite and then there are the others I really like.

The Beatles - Generic and even a boring answer? Yeah...but what I want to know is why don't the radio stations play some of their cooler stuff? I've never heard any stations where I live play anything from Rubber Soul or Revolver...somebody needs to fix that!

Franz Ferdinand - There new album was almost perfect...provided it could have ended as strongly as it began. Not every one of there songs really sticks well with me, but the songs they have that are good are really good. Dark of the Matinee, You're the Reason I'm Leaving, Fade Together, The Fallen...ummm, pretty much all of their songs from Tonight, Love Illumination, Stand on the Horizon, and Fresh Strawberries are just awesome!

The Cars - The 80s wasn't exactly the best time for music...at least, the radio seems to want you to believe that because they play nothing but those shitty hair metal band songs. It was also a time of synth pop, though some bands like The Smiths and Depeche Mode were able to take the 80s kind of sound and turn it into something different. But what happens when you fuse it all together? Well, even with their more synth heavy songs, The Cars really did create something special. My two favorite albums from them are Candy-O and Heartbeat City.

The Who - Who's Next is an album that I just know by heart. Sure, you have the songs played on the radio that are honestly quite awesome like Baba'O Reilly, Bargain, and Won't Get Fooled Again, but where's the love for Entwistle's My Wife? No matter what kind of new sound The Who tackled, it was still distinctly The Who and it was still distinctly awesome. I sort of have this theory that the quality of a band relies on the drummer and the bassist and it seems to show through when the band was only half as good when their drummer, Keith Moon died, and now they're coasting as being legends after bass player Entwistle's passing.

David Bowie - No matter what this guy does, it's at least always interesting. He branches off into a lot of different kinds of sounds and a lot of them are just winners. Even his more pop sounding stuff is immensely listenable compared to other artists. His songs you probably hear on the radio like Modern Love and Let's Dance are honestly quite great, but his quieter and even more "quirky" songs are what really stand out for me.

So, with that, I leave you with this...

In no particular order...

1. Boston
2. Rush
3. The Who
4. Queen
5. Alan Parsons Project

It's kinda funny how tastes change. If I'd been asked while I was in middle school my list probably would have been dominated by bands like The Offspring and Green Day. If I'd been asked again in high school it would have been entirely metal bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Megadeth. I still like those bands to some degree, I just don't really listen to them all that much anymore. College definitely made me lean more toward 60s/70s/80s rock of various sub-genres. My dad was definitely happy about that. He's a drummer with an absolutely huge music library (takes up two whole rooms in his house) and a freakishly encyclopedic knowledge of all of it. Ever since he found out how my interests have changed, he's been trying to get me interested in all the bands of his youth.

How d'you feel about Paul Simon's solo stuff? I've had to put them together in my list, for the sake of ease.

As for favourite output... though it changes daily, I think The Boxer must be up there. One of the greatest and most powerful songs I've ever heard.

Bowie is by far my number one. So many good times listening to him, so many bad times where his music helped me through.

The various works of Amanda Palmer, loved her completely since I first heard Coin Operated Boy.

Young Galaxy is band I love to put on when I need to contemplate live.

Jim Stedman and Meatloaf. When I was thirteen or fourteen Bat out of hell 2 came out and I was give copies of both part one and two and I must have worn those tapes out. Also I love the music Jim did for streets of fire which is still one of my all time favourite films.

Daft Punk, these are the guys I listen when I just want to be in a good mood. I was actually watching the anime video for Discovery earlier today and it's still amazing almost a decade and a half later.

Kaiser Chiefs
Lindi Ortega

What are your favourite songs and albums by them?
Pleased to meet you.

My favourite Bowie album is Ziggy Stardust. I could list every god damn song on that as my favourite of his, but apart from those I adore quicksand.

As for Simon & Garfunkel, all of their albums are full of amazing songs, but I would put sounds of silence at the top for having my 3 absolute favourite songs of theirs: Richard Cory, I am a rock and a most peculiar man.

What about yourself?

Can't say I'm very familiar with those other artists you mentioned, but I'll be sure to check them out.
'Ziggy Stardust' was my favourite Bowie album for a good while, but nowadays I would say 'Low'. That said, I've recently gone on a month-long Bowie binge and got seriously into 'Station to Station' and 'Heathen', so who knows what the future holds? 'Teenage Wildlife' is my favourite song, though 'Five Years' could algo be a candidate. What's your opinion on 'The Laughing Gnome'?

I think 'Bookends' is the best S&G record when taken as a complete "album experience" (I mean in terms of running themes, track order, consistent style etc.). However, most of my favourite songs are on others, for example 'The Only Living Boy in New York' and 'Kathy's Song'. The ones you mentioned are great too.

I've been familiar with Simon and Garfunkel since I was a child because my dad got me into them; he has almost zero interest in music and they're the only group he consistently listens to. I was first introduced to some of Paul Simon's solo stuff on the S&G 'Concert in Central Park' album, and whilst I liked it, I wasn't really hooked until about a year ago when my brother played 'Graceland' in the car. Now it has become one of my favourite albums, and I'd rate it up there with the music he did in the 60s.

I've only heard a few of Paul Simon's solo stuff, but what I have listened to has been pretty amazing. It's on my to do list. The boxer has my favourite seemingly minor element to a song, which is the snare drum in the background of the chorus. It's so simple, yet it adds so much.

Yeah, bookends is great too (overs is another contender for my favourite song of theirs). They don't have a single bad album. All of them have at least a few masterpieces on them.

Oh god, the laughing gnome. I'd forgotten about that. What's there to say, really? I couldn't call it a good song, but it's entertaining in a so bad it's good sort of way.

I used to be obsessed with Green Day. I could probably still sing 90% of the lyrics to all of their songs even though I haven't heard any of them in years.

My dad's exactly like yours. I was essentially raised on the beatles.

I notice some mention of bands I like a lot, from Edguy to Iron Maiden to Stratovarius. Still my list is:

Last one was the hardest choice, I was pretty torn between a lot of bands for it. Blind Guardian, Evergrey, Dream Theatre, Therion, Dark Moor, Anthem and Ancient Bards were all contenders. The last one in particular is insanely good for being quite new to the scene, I heavilly recommend them to "Symphonic metal with female vocals" fans.
Another symphonic metal fan? We should be friends. Nightwish is also a pretty good one, btw.

I honestly don't listen to that much music so I really only have two favorite bands

1)JAM project; favorite song, either GONG [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWIslwPcefk] or The Guardian [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2Nj8OxYLTw]
2)The Protomen; favorite song The stand (man or machine) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnkbJ-H4r5k] with keep quiet [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvnzAlh9PmA] as a close second

so my two favorite bands are 1)the most hot-blooded bland in the world, who's songs make you want to jump up, fly out into space, and beat up an fleet of alien ships with the power of pure awesome, and 2) the guys who created a depressing rock opera inspired by megaman.

yes, I am aware of the irony

I've had a pretty consistent top 3 for years, but the rest...in a state of flux.

1. Say Anything: Because I'd have Max Bemis' babies. Lyrical gawd.

2. Breaking Benjamin: Because I'd have Benjamin Burnley's babies. Always loved the grungy sound.

3. Celldweller: Because Klayton. I love the industrial and campy stuff.

Ahhh...dat gamer anthem.

4-5? Bit more difficult.

4. Hollywood Undead: I dunno why? Campy but fun.

5. A Perfect Circle/Linkin Park: I enjoy the sound and the lyrics. That's about it.
