Who do you think is the greatest rock band and why?

See, now, I don't really like "rock" :/ I'm more of a metal sort of fan.

But generally I dislike the "classic" rock people. I just don't like the music. I'm far more likely to like the "new" stuff than the "old" stuff.

I'm just going to say Kamelot because sometimes they get classified as rock instead of metal.

Actually went and looked at how some of my music is classifed and picked out the ones that are most often classified as "rock" just about now. I'm choosing Cold. I like Cold.

That's a tough one. I'd have to go with Queen though, there's just something about their music that gives you tingles. AC/DC are a very close second though and then KISS because if I didn't say them I think my dad would disown me.

Queen. Queen is the greatest thing to ever exist. All their albums are consistently good. They did enough experimentation to make everything unique without devolving into pretentious wankery. They had excellent live shows that put most other bands to shame. Plus, they made Bohemian Rhapsody, the greatest song ever, period.

If you don't like Queen, I will go to your house and maul you to death.

This song is short and counts as rock. You are aware rock can incorporate these styles?

I am aware, thank-you I think I have some bands kicking around that are classified as orchestral rock.

I'm going to have to go with Iron Maiden. I don't know of too many other bands that can capture musical complexity and maturity in the way they do and still be just plain good to listen to. Zeppelin and Metallica are contenders for me as well.

OT: The western band I'm gonna go with is Rush, I love not only the way their songs sound, but the ideals behind each one.

The non-western and overall band I'm picking is the pillows. No other band has been able to capture emotion in music and still make is sound so melodic (perhaps not the best word) and beautiful.

Captain Beefheart sound like a real rock band to me because they are so bluesy, they rock and they are never boring.

But if I had to pick an old school band... well I can't stand pink floyd, I think led zeppelin are highly overated and rush is meh. Suppose Black Sabbath or Jimi Hendrix.

More awesome in an intro to a Sabbath or Hendrix track than a whole Zeppelin album.
