Very fun game but quite a few minor/medium complain

The story is kinda non sense, dark soul tell you little but there's a lot of information to find and its part of a fully fleshed out world. HLD just seems like its vague for the sake of being vague and there's actually nothing to be understood ("And here's a mysterious jackal! Why? Why not?").

The gameplay is good but can run into lots of small problem, especially wonky hit frame, of every possible things to take form dark soul that's the one things they should have left behind. This is especially frustrating in big fight when you're clearly hiding behind something and get hit by a bullet anyway. There's also a few enemy whose attack have way longer reach than it seem (like the robot with 4 health your fight in the south, there melee is 2-3 time longer than the animation).

Maybe its just me, but wave dashing never clicked, even at the end I could only reliably start one every 2-3 attempt. It made the crystal trap room and the other disappearing floor challenge quite annoying.

The game gives you way too much upgrade token (or there's not enough upgrade to be brought) after 2 section I already brought everything I wanted, by the end I had 5 upgrade module and nothing to buy anymore.

Because of its open nature and ease of getting upgrade, boss difficulty goes down way too fast. I started with east which took me maybe 10 attempt, then west which took only 4-5 and north went down in one shoot. South took me 2 and final took me 3-4, its like they didn't expect people to get most upgrade new gear (that last gun is OP as all hell).

There's a bit too much overreliance on invisible floor and secret passage, I ended up just hugging every ledge and wall the entire game, which really slow down the game.

Still fun, but it could have used a tiny bit more polish.

I've been seeing the game around, but I haven't been seeing what makes the game worth buying yet. I do like the art style, but the combat seems a tad boring.

I probably just haven't seen enough into it yet and need to give it more time. I just don't know what I'm looking for yet.

Actually I'll ask one thing big I haven't had answered yet.
Can anyone tell me what type of game this is and what it does well? I have seen so little information that it looks like it could be almost anything.
It combine the Gameplay Theme of 2D Zelda games, minus of the unique way you must defeat specific bosses. You only need pure skill by your part to win over the Bosses you oppose. This means you can really fight them even without any kind of update.
However with that said, the game combine the diffulty of Dark Souls games: Punishing, but fair...most of the times I guess [f*ck again the Boss in the West].....
I got to the West Boss last night and was murdered about 10-15 times before finally giving up. Then I decided to come back later, so I went and finished up the east. I beat that Boss in about 5 tries, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates the Western Boss. I'll finish off the north before going back to take on the western boss, and hopefully he'll be easier once I've been able to buy more upgrades with the upgrade tokens I collect.

I was explaining the game to a friend as much the same. While the game does to enjoy seeing your bloody corpse hit the ground and throwing nasty traps and ambushes at you all the time, none of the mechanics seem unfair and the fact you can always warp to another hub(at the cost of respawning the monsters) and attempt a different area is a nice feature.

I keep seeing people compare this to Dark Souls, which I still haven't played yet. I guess I need to get on in the near future, after I finish HLD.
Ah, no, I think I died 6 times then I beat it. Darks Souls games made me take my time to "leech" the moves of my enemies/bosses.
However the West Boss doesn't have the whole time a specific pattern.
Lets say he have three different moves which follow 1-2-3 and then repeat.
All Bosees follow a standar pattern. Not the f*cker in the West. There are time which the West Boss follow a 1-1-2-3 pattern.
This have a result get close to him and start again his f*cking dash attack even he done it before!!!

That I am trying to say is The Last Boss was a little b*tch after the West Boss. Died only 3 times I think.

Seriously?

The game has no dialogue at all and a intro sequence(which arguably has more plot then the rest of the game) that looks like a surrealistic acid trip/nightmare. There's nothing remotely political about it that I can tell after getting a decent chunk of the way in. I mean, other then the fact 90% of the people you meet are anthro-animals of some sort, but I didn't know "furries"=SJW. Or maybe SJW is the new word for any game that's remotely Artsy?

I don't know. I've never gotten a practical definition of what a SJW is supposed to be. Just like no one has ever satisfactory defined Hipster for me either. But apparently they are all horrible in some way.
Well, it's more just a desire to stay out of such things. Not really any sort of "Oh, it has SJW-stuff, so, it's bad." More along the lines of "There's controversy around this game, and I can't be bothered getting involved".

If it's a whole bunch of nothing (Which, frankly, it tends to be) then whatever. I'll check it out at some stage, but, I'm not really overly into such games to begin with.

Just beat the game, its fun and definitely worth the buy. Great combat, lots of secrets, beautiful pixel art and great bosses.

As a fan of non-dialogue story telling, I felt this games story was too complex for that style of story telling. When you want to tell the story without dialogue it should be something simple, so it can be conveyed visually, even finishing the game allowed to only barely scratch the surface and understand the basic concepts they were introducing in the opening cutscene.

The final boss took you three tries? I took like an hour and half to beat him, I had understand his patterns fully and get really aggressive with him. The West Boss wasn't that bad for me, if you get the dash cut move (the one do with X+A, not the stinger one), he's not too bad since you can keep your distance and stay out of sword range and get attacks in.

As i said previously, the Bossof West would be "easy", but he had a bad habit to change his patterns.
However the Final Bos had, what, 4 different attacks? I had only problem with his Death Ray move. I couldn't make out which direction would throw it to me...
Other than that, too easy. Using Shotgun also GREATLY helped me in the fight.

His pattern was predictable but a bit difficult for me to handle, the bit that kept getting me was the Dash Attack if you get the timing wrong he can get a few hits on you, the death ray was tricky too, plus I didn't get the final health upgrade so I was working with 4 potions. I never thought the shotgun would be particularly helpful on that boss, I used the Revolver like I do for all the other bosses.
