Yes it's old, Yes it's still better than Halo. It has intellectual depth and it ONLY came out on the Mac. Well...Marathon 2 came out on Windows but 1 and 3 were Mac only. Now that Aleph One has been out for a while you CAN play them on any platform, and they're quite well made for their time. I think some writers here have penned articles about the series.

I have, way back in the day, I was in Jr. high when I discovered it on a school computer. I played with it some, even made a 2 room map, 1 room had more guns and ammo than you could carry, and the other had every monster in the game at least once.

See icon. *grin* Though I must admit that I played them after getting started on Halo, so I'm not one of those who played in Marathon's heyday.

The story is fantastic, though, and the gameplay actually holds up reasonably well even after more than a decade. (I love the terminal hunting.)

I don't remember it too well, since I didn't get to play on it much before they deleted it from the computers. I was unhappy when that occurred.

I played it, beat it and liked it pretty much. That eas like 10-11 years ago, so I really don't remember much of the game. Bungie should think of bringing that franchise back.

That was prepackaged on my computer, but back when i checked it out i was *very* young, so I didn't exactly get very far with it. I always wondered if it was actually any good and was actually just thinking the other day if i still had my copy. The answer? Almost certainly not, unfortunately.

Yeah...but it has one of the most painful installation procedures I've ever encountered, especially if you want to get it working on windows.

I played all three when they originally came out. The storyline kinda lost me in Infinity, but marathon.bungie.org/story helped me to figure it out.

Occasionally I keep up with the UT freeware port.

As a lad I did work experience at a TV production company (they made Wizardora, if anyone remembers that) and I tell you I must have spent the entire two-week period playing Marathon with the graphic design guys. I remember it being really good, probably thanks to their super-Macs.

I actually downloaded it today - they've apparently streamlined the installation procedure - as described above, there is none. Thanks for the heads up folks, it's a fun little game.

Fourteen posts and still no link to the damn thing? Wake up, people.

http://source.bungie.org/

And from there, the install procedure is all of
Download a Scenario and Aleph One for your OS.
Drag Aleph One into the scenario folder.
Thank you lord! No messing around in SourceForge for me! :D

If they remade the marathon games they would end up looking and feeling like halo.

and if the game is that good then it doesn't need to be remade.

That's another thing...where's Myth gone!? The Fallen Lords and Soulblighter were great squad based RTS. They should make a Myth 3...yeah, not like -that's- been done before >.>
