Who here has Twitter? Quick edit.

I'm bored, random thread in a sense, but I actually have a question I need answered.

Now, I love the Escapist. It's my first social networking site I ever joined and I'll always be on here, but I've been interested to join others and there are a few people I've noticed here who have these Twitter accounts.

I'm wondering what its like exactly and how enjoyable is it. I've always been sorta against the idea of joining any of these SN sites like myspace, Facebook and twitter, but after seeing people here with accounts, I think I might want to join.

So my question, what's it like? Are there any other social networking sites like the Escapist? And who here actually has Twitter? Is it worth it or is it what I think it is and just some shitty fad that will pass in a while and I've been smart to avoid it?

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention/ask, how the hell does it all work? I don't get the whole, followers thing. If someone could explain it to me that'd be great.

Twitter? I have heard of it, but I have never been on it, as I like my soul where it is.[footnote] In a shoebox buried under three tonnes of cement to keep it away from the likes of Lucifer[/footnote] In case you didn't guess, I don't go on social networking sites like myspace, facebook or twitter.

I find twitter really annoying. especially the people that post shit like "just dropped the kids off, now going to get the mail" or anything like that......

You tweet. people that follow you see your tweets in their timeline.

they follow you because they want to see your tweets.

if someone is not following you, you can message them directly with an @reply by including @[username] in your tweet.

if a person is following you, and a friend of yours, and you and your friend are tweeting @replies to one another, that person can see your @replies to each-other, even though he's not been included in the conversation. but he will not seeyour @replies to a person he isn't following.

As far as getting followers is concerned, there are a few ways, which may be more or less useful to you.

1. Be a famous person. If you are Felicia day, you need do nothing else on this list.

2. Have friends. Do you have friends? Suggest that they try Twitter as well. It's much better for having casual group conversations than texting.

3. Be extremely interesting. If you are consistently awesome and hilarious, people will follow you. (eg @shitmydadsays, @luckyshirt)

4. Network network network! Integrate Twitter with facebook, your blog, include your account in your forum sig. Tell any and everyone that you're on Twitter.

5. Be engaging. Follow some people, (maybe start with some forumites). If they tweet something of interest to you, shoot them an @ reply and start a discussion with them. Become a conversationalist, and people will want to know what you have to say.

Additionally, don't fret if people sometimes unfollow you. It happens.
