Big fan of Wil Anderson and Arj Barker, but the gold's going to Eddie Murphy for Delerious. Funniest thing EVER.

I'm so relieved that nobody has said Dane Cook.
Dane Cook

Dead: Bill Hicks
Alive: David Cross - If only he'd do some more

Edit: Big fan of Chris Rock... at least he's still touring.

Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, George Carlin, Bill Hicks and Ricky Gervais. Off the top of my head, but I tend to like the vast majority of comedians minus a few that just royally suck (Carlos Mencia and Dane Cook come to mind).

I'm going to have to say, Russell Peters. Though Danny Bhoy does come a close second :)

Eddie Izzard, fuck yeah! One of the few to not just talk about sex or trying to make people go "Oh my god! Did he really say that?!"

Edit: and also he isn't always going "White people are like blah blah blah golly gee, and black people are like blah blah blah homie."

Jim Davidson, Billy Connolly, Jack Dee, Richard Pryor, Lee Evans, Robin Williams. Few others that have been mentioned already.

Eddie Izzard, because he's so clever and his ability to ramble on and still be hilarious is second to none. "I'M COVERED IN BEES!"

Bill Bailey, because he's an incredibly talented musician who can seemlessly work that into his show. "HEY, ASDA, I AINT GONNA BE YOUR *****!"

Stewart Lee, because he's incredibly clever and isn't afraid to show his intelligence. "Del Boy falls through the bar then Trigger makes a face it's the FUNNIEST THING EVER Stewart"

Bill Hicks, because he wasn't afraid to state the truth no matter how offensive, if only he'd ben alive for the Bush years. "If you're in advertising go kill yourself. This isn't a joke, just do it"

Ross Noble, because he is without a doubt the king of improvising, neve are two of his shows the same. "You're not having a stroke, your face is on fire!"

George Carlin was brilliant, but my living favourites would be Russell Brand and Frankie Boyle. Oh, and Dylan Moran.

If only Charlie Brooker did stand-up...

Overall: Dylan Moran.

On the more inspirational, political side: Bill Hicks

And on the silly end of the spectrum: Eddie Izzard or Bill Bailey.

I'd say either Russell Peters or Dane Cook.

EDIT: I also really like Mitch Hedberg, Chris Rock, and many, many others.
