I'm very happy to hear they are not only making a brand new Monkey Island game (which looks meh, but better then 4) and making a Special edition monkey island 1. Though I can't help but wonder, when did they decide to do so much about Monkey island after a good 7-8 years? Are they getting desperate for more money, or(/and) are they finally realizing something good can come from a non star wars game?

I say George Lucas is going senile and they need money for drugs to keep him sane and public-friendly.

EDIT: First Post! Woohoo!

I hope this will bring a new serge of Lucas adventure games! Could you provide a link to the news about the Monkey Island 1 remake?

Well, it all started with Telltale, mostly made out of former LucasArts employees, revitalized the whole adventure genre with the awesome Sam & Max episodic series. I fully trust them with making the Tales of Monkey Island series and it's probably going to be great.

I don't really like the Monkey Island remake though, it's good that they rerelease this fantastic game for a new audience but the game looks plain ugly. Why can't they just port the original pixelated graphics?

Lucasarts adventure games were great because they were made by small teams with talented individuals who were allowed to use that talent. Not because they own certain intellectual property rights. The fact that they are getting Telltale to make the new Monkey Island content instead of making them internally tells me something about the chances of Lucasarts making new adventure games.

It's likely because of the continued success of Telltale. Say what you will, I know there are many out there not very fond of their work, but that one studio has managed to single-handedly not only prove that episodic content is both possible as well as profitable but they've also been a rejuvenating wind through the Adventure genre that's sparked interest from other developers eager to tap the small but lucrative Adventure Gamer market.

Lucasarts for all their evil and twisted ways are still a company that wants money and when faced with the concept they've been sitting on a considerable little stack of cash all this time, seem to have decided to play their cards and cash in.

Well then I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but that new game is being made by Telltale Games :(

Why are you complaining about new Monkey Island games?
Who me? No I'm not. I'm asking why now? and saying that 5 doesn't look nearly as good as 1 2 or 3.

Don't you go badmouthin Telltale, you know why, I'll tell ya why! They reprinted and published a hardcover copy of the original Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway and it's the most purdy and beautiful book I ever did see. Even signed by Purcell himself it is, and not one of those cheap pictures of a signature neither.

I'd take a picture of it and me together, but I'm hardly dressed and fondling my dear book in ways not suited for a public forum so I think it's for the best I not.

So say what you will of Telltale's games, but producing this books is GODLY and I shall love Telltale forever for it.

I already new that, I have played most of their other games and they seem to be able to make quality adventure titles if they have good source material.

Well if it isn't good we're burning down TellTale's offices, you in?
To be honest, they could've at least kept the Curse of Monkey Island graphics or gone into better 3D than they have.

Wow that remake is awesome! I love how you can press "the button" to switch between the new and the original version. I bet a whole bunch of people will press it once to get the original version, and the leave it at that :)

As for the new game, I agree that the 3D graphics look a bit off, especially compared to Escape from Monkey Island which featured 3D characters on a drawn background instead of full 3D graphics. But I definitely would not have minded classic 2D graphics a la Curse of Monkey Island.

They did, there is a button that switches between old and new Monkey Island. You can play it and switch it as and when you like, to my understanding.
There was a video I saw on here a while back that went into depth about how they built the new version over the old one, so fans could play either one they liked & compare.

The development team is headed by Dave Grossman, one of the original designers for the first two Monkey Island games, with Michael Stemmle, who co-designed Escape From Monkey Island and Sam & Max Hit the Road, contributing to design and writing the story.

So it can't be all that bad.
