Who really cares?

In light of every this months article and everybody who whines I have to say this. Who cares?

While reading this months article and the subsequent posts here I just didn't care. It seems that games now must be non white non male non masculine characters. Maybe I do like playing a 400 pound meat-head who can form poetry with his fists. But in this months article it seems like people all want the limelight. I don't care if Marcus Fenix is homosexual or if Master chief is secretly two Asian midget transsexuals. I really don't care.

But for the love of god just don't do it for the sake of doing it. I do not want to play Call Of Duty 6 and have Soap make sweet love to my character. It doesn't bother me( OK that example kinda does) but I don't want to see it just for the sake of making a minority in the industry happy. If playing as a woman gives huge bonuses to gameplay versus being a male I'll sign up.

One thing I had to agree with in the article was the fable 2 and sims 2 example. I can but I don't have to. But it irked me that they wanted every game to have this feature. Don't get me wrong I love a good story (heavy rain is on my pre order) but sometimes I like seeing things fall to the ground from my bullets.

Point is I am tired of people wanting the spotlight if their ethnicity, gender, orientation isn't the main character. Oh and before you say that my gender, orientation, and ethnicity is most of the characters in games then you haven't read my title.

Feel better after that rant?

Is there any actual discussion here or should this be filed under the long list of threads that end in "I just had to get that off my chest?"

Ah, ain't it sweet?

He's having his first rant. Well, that I've seen anyway.

While we are ranting here, has anyone who plays Saints Row 2 noticed it seems obsessed with Paramore?

I agree, there are alot of sensitive, needy, whiny pussies out there. Maybe the whole point of a game is to show how four meatheads with no necks take on swarms of burrowing mosters while simultaneously telling dick jokes. Just because it doesn't inclue a certain gender or race doesn't mean it's actively excluding it. I think if there is no real purposeful hate or discrimination behind something then there is no need for people to cry about it. It just comes down to people feeling left out and/or feeling they are victimized, though without real reason.

Agreed with the OP.

Unless is has a lot of impact on the story of the game I don't care what the sexuality of my character is, for all I know Jack in Bioshock is gay or Samus may be a lesbian, but those particular details never come up because they aren't important to the game.

Is it me or is Gears of War actually culturally sensitive?

Your team consists of ultra marine redneck white guy, a Hispanic, a Black, a technical geek, and the stereotypical nice guy accident-prone loser who loses his head in certain situations.

Not to mention the white characters (Marcus,Baird,Carmine) are either total dicks or complete wimps.

someone cares. The person that wrote it. And that is there opinion that they are trying to pass onto you so you get a new view of it. It's not like they type something expecting to take it as the word of god or something like that. They write to inform. And those that listen and feel a bit changed in their way of thinking are the people who do care about that sort of stuff.
