Does anybody know if its going to be a sequel to return of the Jedi or is it going to be a prequel to the prequels?

Quentin Tarantino. After the last three debacles I say anything goes. At worst we'll bee a lot of bloodshed, wookie rapists, and maybe there'll be some slick but long-winded dialogue. At best it will be his magnum opus, and we will never view the franchise in the same light again.
Fun fact, Tarantino's Pulp Fiction is a Viacom film, Viacom is a Disney property.
Rodriguez would be a fabulous choice too, but I imagine there'd be a lot of race jokes that would either be ill-fitting or much too lore based to make sense to anyone but the most stalwart fans.

What about Jon Favreau. He's already done voice work for The Clone Wars, and he directed Iron Man 1 and 2.

No one. I'm not saying that Disney should not make Star Wars movies. But they need to separate their Star Wars product from Lucas'. Episodes 1 thru 6 chronicle the life of Anakin Skywalker from the first notable events in his life in Phantom Menace until his death in Jedi. There's no "episode 7" left to tell, that story is over. Disney needs to realize how much freedom there is now that they have the entire "universe" of Star Wars to tell stories in. And yes, the "Lucas" stories include staying away from the Expanded Universe stuff as well. I read most of the novels until NJO, and then couldn't stay interested. But doing book to movie adaptation for the next however many movies would be a terrible mistake. Far better to take it in a completely new direction.
With whatever director... it makes no difference. Kershner directed Empire, after directing "Eyes of Laura Mars" which were both really good movies. And then went on to direct the WORST James Bond movie ever and Robocop 2 directly after. Marquand directed Jedi, and a few other movies (most good) but wasn't very prolific.
So it doesn't take anyone that special to direct Star Wars, it's all about the writers.

Forget the movies, I'm still waiting for that live action tv show they promised. That was set between 3 and 4 and I believe took place in Corousant, let me have that please.
If they really want to make that next movie, maybe get the Pirates of the Carribean guy Gore Verbinsky. He managed to be both silly and gritty AND complex. I liked it a lot.

My immediate thought when i heard the news was they better just go out of their mind crazy and let Tarantino write and direct it just so we can get Samuel L Jackson come back as Mace Windu saying im sick of these MF midichlorines in this MF galaxy far far away
I think Peter Jackson or Christopher Nolan would be the ideal choice for it however I hope this movie isn't kiddy and Disney learns from past mistakes in the franchise *cough* Jar Jar Binks...
