If I remember correctly, the first Doctor Who episode I watched was Jon Pertwee (3rd Doctor) in "The Green Death" (Giant maggots! Eww, cool!). It was actually a 1973 episode rebroadcast in 1978, but I was hooked. Thanks to all the station's "catch up" rebroadcasts, I actually got to see the entirety of Tom Baker's run, in order.
I watched the show regularly until I had to move in 1988. Tom Baker was my favorite, followed by Jon Pertwee and Peter Davidson. I wasn't a big fan of Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy, but I was still really surprised and bummed when I found out the show was canceled.
The new series let me introduce my wife to the franchise, and my kids are even starting to show interest now.

That is the episode "The Ark in Space" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ark_in_Space) - a very fun episode - early Tom Baker.trollnystan said:I don't remember, I was too young and hiding behind the sofa =P
Although I do recall him having a long stripy scarf, bushy red hair. And the episode I remember most is when they're on a space station (I think) and someone opens a closet and out falls what looked like a gigantic plastic ant. That was hilarious.
