Who was your FIRST Video Game Hero? And who is your Current Favorite? AND WHY!?

My first? Not sure... well the first arcade game I played was Street Fighter 2 and I soon learned of Chun-Li and her kicks. Well her or Pinobee, my first GBA game and I loved it!

My current Hero? Yuri Lowell? He is the only JRPG protagonist which I didn't feel like punching in the face at some point. Maybe it's because he is 21, which also makes him the oldest JRPG protagonist I have played as (and identified as the main protagonist). Yuri isn't some kid who knows piss all about the world, sure he doesn't know it all, he isn't Mr Exposition (that is Lady Estellise "Human Library" Heurassein's department for the most part), but he knows enough and he has common sense! Yet most importantly his pet/best friend is a one-eyed, pipe carrying, knife wielding dog!

My first was Mario since my first game was a Mario game (can't remember which one, pretty sure it was 3) and I found him interesting even when I was a little kid. The idea of jumping on baddies, collecting coins and getting power-ups is a really fun concept that can't fail, and I found it inspiring.

However, one day I bought another SNES game for really cheap called Super Metroid. I didn't expect any thing from it, and either way my mind would be blown. The beginning of this game is still the greatest of all intro's I've seen, and this is when I saw video games as an art form that had the most potential.

Samus (the old Samus) is still my favourite video game hero till this day and that will probably never change. First thinking Samus was called Metroid and a man, I slowly learnt there was so much mystery surrounding her and I really liked that. I loved how this game didn't go into any detail about where she came from and other cliche' crap. I can understand why fans would love to see the personal life of characters, but I don't believe it just works with everyone, nor does it need to happen. It was just focusing on what's going on right now and dealing with all the shit that's comes her way, like a true master. I really loved learning what her power suit was capable of, there was never any thing like it and it just kept growing. She was every thing: tough as hell, very agile, armed to the teeth, and she has hidden powers, couldn't be any more reliable. I reckon Samus is Nintendo's answer to over-powered characters on other platforms. She's a lone wolf that was interesting in her own way, a mysterious warrior clearing planets of the worst scum.

Metroid Prime is an amazing sequel I didn't expect. If there was any great way to unravel her story while still keeping the mystery, the first Prime accomplished this perfectly with the scanning. With amazing games like Super Metroid and Metroid Prime, I started to see Samus as a main source for great quality. It didn't last unfortunately, but those two games are easily some of the greatest games ever made, if not the best.

First hero was probably Mario, Wonder Boy or Pac Man I dont know which one I played first but Mario was my favourite out of those 3.

I dont really have a hero as such now plenty of characters that I like but no hero but if I had to choose one I would go with April Ryan from the longest journey simply because I think she is the best written hero in videogames.

My first game hero that I really grew attached to was probably the Arbiter in Halo 2.

And now nine years later, he still is. I have love for Thel Vadam that some might argue is unhealthy, he's cool, he's noble and he actually has a noticeable character arc over the course of Halo 2 (and to a lesser degree Halo 3) that made him much more interesting than the Masterchief in terms of protagonists for those games.
He was also very unconventional, like I've said in the past there's not many video games, especially not shooters, that actually have us play from the perspective of the giant reptilian aliens threatening the human race. In fact I'm hard pressed to come up with a single other example that's ever done that, this makes the Arbiter unique. True, fans bitched and moaned about him being in the game but to hell with them and their heresy.

Tell you what 343, you put the Arbiter back in your games and I might honestly consider giving the 'new trilogy' of Halo another look.

Link from The Legend of Zelda. Specifically the Hero of Time Link. He went through some sick stuff in Majora's Mask. And I respected him for it.

Now? Eh...a character from my all time favorite game EVER. Vanilla Bean from Steambot Chronicles.

The Hero of Time Link definitely endured some serious ventures especially with having to undo most of his work at the end of Ocarina of Time, which always bugged me.
I know that there's a legend about the Hero of Time defeating Ganon, but is it through an alternate timeline that he is praised because in Link's time at the end of the game, Ganon is caught by the guards and his uprising is averted, leaving no epic tale to tell...

Guybrush Threepwood is my first hero. All others before could have been swapped but not this pirate.

There are many great characters in the current gen but i like to point out the boss of Saints Row 2. What i loved about him (playing a male character with english accent) was that he had a clear goal ("i`m taking back my city") and that he took action instead of letting things just happening to him. I guess this is one of the rare games that let you play a ruthless psycho and not only in gameplay but also showing it in cutscenes.
