I want this so hard.
But I've spent my game budget for the rest of the year.

I'm also really amused by how crestfallen the narrator is at having lost kit-kat chunky in the third video.

Really interesting "New Xcom vs X-Com" by joystiq:

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/13/video-from-x-com-to-xcom/

also gives a sample of Michael McCann(of Deus Ex:HR fame) battle music, making both the video and the game in which it will feature 5 billion percent cooler.

I am pretty excited for X-COM: Enemy Unknown. I plan to pick it up on October 9th. I have no idea what I am going to name my soldiers yet.

John McClane, Korben Dallas, Hudson Hawk... And those are just the Bruce Willis's.

I always named my soldiers after co-workers in the original X-Com. When I ran out, I used their pets.

I would often run out of those, too.

X-Com.

Yes I am excited. I haven't ever played a single X-Com game before, but it doesn't matter - this game looks absolutely amazing. Day one buy, if I'm not busy. To be honest, the games i'll be playing in October (Dishonored, X-Com: Enemy Unknown) might trump even this month's awesome releases (Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2.)

I was interested until you said it was xbox. Oh dear.

OT: Hell yes. I was too young to play the original, though I had a little go at Apocalypse, which I sucked at but loved. I'm super excited to play this, though I'll probably just nick my dad's copy. xD

I've never played XCOM but Enemy Unknown looks fantastic. I imagine I'll be preordering it myself.

My favourite of the lot was the Joystiq Preview [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjqdCl-H_bw] mission, "That one was for you!.. Whatever your name was..." Rookies make great Sectoid fodder apparently.

Guardedly optimistic about the new XCOM.

The original XCOM was great, but it also had many flaws: a clumsily scripted escalation of the conflict and some serious bugs, like a difficulty setting that only worked for the first mission. Poor weapon progression didn't help either as the cheap and early laser rifle was king in most combat scenarios.

So the new game may become better still. Then again Jagged Alliance 2 is where it's really at.

PC definitely on Steam, but from what I've seen the only functional difference between versions is how you control the game.

Watching with interest, but not pre-ordered. Will probably wait for a price drop/sale on. Sorry, but I'm not really into strategy and I was literally not alive when the original was popular.

as consoles really dont work that well for turn based strategy
This is a myth actually. Turn-Based games have thrived on console for a long while now. In fact, the Japanese make a killing out of making turn-based games for the Playstation 3 and other consoles, with titles like Valkyria Chronicles (the closest analogue to this game), Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, the Disgaea franchise, Super Robot Wars, etc.

There's also the fact that the original X-COM: Enemy Unknown (with hyphen) was ported to Playstation in 1995 to no detriment of its tactical or strategic gameplay.

Finally, none of the limitations that prevent most Real-Time Strategy games from being successful on consoles, like the need to select and move multiple units with precision within a short amount of time, are absent in Turn-Based games due to their very nature of giving you all the time in the world to make an action, allowing control schemes with less buttons to work.

I am.
It's about time someone started making strategy games again.
Starcraft doesn't count, because it's realtime or strategy. Not both.
