According to history, in about 30-50 yrs USA will turn weak and be replaced by a much stronger power. But to be a true superpower you must have cultural influence and a good propaganda machine. Also a government prepared to tell lies upon lies will help you.

Look at great Britain. During their imperialistic time they had a wast cultural influence and a kick ass propaganda machine. When the lies and propaganda quieted down and they got to comfortable they faded away.

The same thing is happening to the US. Although their propaganda machine is still loud (since they also have privatised propaganda). They are getting more comfortable every day. Now with and economical crisis coming up... well the world economy will follow for a while. I think the US economy will pick it self up no problem, but slower then most of the world. Some other countries will grow really really fast (like china). That will just be a little taste and nothing to worry about rly.

Now the Chinese propaganda machine gets louder and louder. China will probably grow very fast once the US economy is stabilized and the rest of the world has grown.

30 yrs, US economy drops again, the worlds follows for a while. It stabilizes, the US stabilizes shortly after, China keeps on growing and their influence is now great because they have become richer and louder.

But BRIC. Yeah be careful west.

Or Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland (and maybe Finland can come to if they change name to Sweden or Denmark) form the Scandinavian Tundra Alliance! The Vikings rise again to terrorize the world. Also to trade goods with China.

China will be hit hard by the oil running out because most of its exports are made of plastic. But because of its spending power it is already a superpower.
America will fade away like Britain did, but since the average inteligence of the American public is incredibly low, it may not hold a similar political position to Britain. (not racist, just true see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw603tH6YqM),

Russia and Brazil are likely to rise up in the next hundred years. Brazil will be the next china. It has a huge workforce who are all willing to work for low wages, it has huge natural resources both wood, and the oil underneath the amazon rainforest (millions of years of rainforest, don't tell me there isn't oil there). It will soon after get a decent millitary force and will enter the global stage as a powerful nation.

Russia controls the gas to Europe. All it has to do is turn if off and we can't boil our tea anymore. Did anyone see Mr Saakashvilli at the start of the South Ossetia war saying "we will fight off those russian scumbgs" and then a few weeks ago AFTER western powers held talks with him, he is now saying "the last thing we want to do is antagonise russia". Russia has gas: we know Russia has WMDs so there can't be any US invasion and occupation: Russia has power.

I agree with the definition of superpower; it might be very picky, but it means that the nation that is a superpower is known to everyone, everywhere, like a superpower should be.

Though, that's why quite a few people (like me) are suggesting that one nation won't become a superpower, but instead, a coalition of nations, each with their own reason for being top dog. Which is why I'm supporting BRIC nations for the next superpower. Like you said, with the economic power of India and China, the massive stockpiles of resources and military power of Russia, and the agricultural might of Brazil, I see a winning combination. Of course, time is needed for them to fix up the government, but when they do...

Of course, I'm pretty sure we can all agree that the US is going anywhere in the near future...

The EU or similar conglomerate of nations would become the "superpower". If the USA falters that is

So far, If the U.S would fade from super power I forsee germany and india getting a seat in the UN. Then norway(Maybe even denmark.) Could get a seat on the UN.(norway most likely as a economic power.)

Super power though... Thats a toughy.

I'm intrigued. Care to explain those choices? (Outside of India, I understand that one.)

If you replace finland with norway it would be correct anyway.

http://www.aneki.com/richest.html

If this is to be held true, Norway and denmark and a few of the richest countries in the world by GDP.

I say germany on the off-hand because its very economically powerful.(Extremely strong tourism.) and its miltary strength is growing.

I would like to add japan, For other obviously stated reasons in the thread.

While germany and japan are not aloud to have nuclear weapons they are working in leaps and bounds rebounding back from a losing country in WW2.

Well so is Luxembourg, but I'm not nervously looking over my shoulder for them.

And with Germany, I just highly doubt that they're going to spring up out of nowhere.

Really, is this thread even needed? We know it's China next and then probably India will be next in line.

Well I said germany because they are not to far behind india in largest economics too. I did not say luxemburg because if the wikipedia is true there is barely half a million people who live there. Compared to the 143 million in russia and the 83 or so in germany.

So you think that 5 million people in Norway or Denmark will surely boost them to being the top dog in the world? I think you're looking at this a little ... oddly.

Also, in your original post, did mean seat as being a spot of power? Or just being on the UN, because all of those nations you mentioned are already in the United Nations.

I meant permanent seat, After and edit post I said no clue for super power.

Anyways I say permeant seat in the un because they are atleast stable. Not much of that mass poverty to feed the elitists bullshit in india.

Plus if denmark/Norway get a permeant seat its sure to piss the ruskies off.

Hell it may fix their arms. ^.^(I laughed so hard on pages 2-3.)

Anyways another idea for superpower is a joint relationship with israel and the U.S.

Ah, you should have mentioned that before we got into a debate about different things. That's the second time that's happened to me in this thread.
