I really don't know that much about my ancestors, per se. Furthest back I know that well is my grandfather in the war.

He was one of them.

My ancestors were some of the first settlers in our area. They were Quakers, which was part of the Christian Pacifist movement.

They were also actively involved in the Underground Railroad.

Bam.

My great great great grandfather led a Lebanese(Small country in the Middle-East, Canada has lakes bigger than it.)revolution. He hid in a neighbouring country, after his brother was killed, with an Islamic family. He changed his last name to theirs, to honour their help.

On my father's side, I'm a descendant of Robert Fulton... I'd say it's pretty cool

(also, he didn't actually invent the first steamboat, but he did create the first commercialy viable one... it was fun getting to read about an ancestor in my history books :D)

I dont really know his name, (never really bottered to ask) but my moms side of the family comes from Poza Rica Veracruz, a town known for its oil output (petrol?? how do you say that in english!?), one of the central plants catched fire and they where evacuating the complex when my great great uncle (a meager salary man working there) realized that the main valve was open, meaning that if the fire managed to get there, the whole town would be obliverated... this valve was huge and 3 people where needed to close it off, so he grabed two buddies and went back.

they found them scorched into the valve, this one already closed, they built a monument for him and his friends in the town.

i haver always felt proud for this... but for the life of me i dont know why i never bottered to ask his name... i just realized that now... weird...

I have a grandfather who served both in WWI and WWII and an Uncle who was a Nuclear Physicist, when there were only seven in the world at the time.

That's all I can think of from the top of my head.

My grandfather (on my father's side) is a famous screenwriter in China. He married my grandmother who was a revered traditional opera singer. Together they wrote and performed some pretty amazing stuff back in the day, but were both persecuted and arrested during the Cultural Revolution (some fucked up shit). My grandfather remained jailed for some time and my grandmother was executed for being an intellectual.

My grandfather still lives in China to this day and still writes scripts occasionally. I think I adopted my interest in filmmaking from him.

Probably my Great Great Great Grandfather Ole Fredrickson. Well back then our last name was Frederickson, but we changed it after the Civil War. He served in the Civil War for the Union and was blinded in one eye in the line of duty and discharged. However, for some reason he was drafted again into a different regiment and was blinded in the other eye too. It apparently was because since he lived in an area with many Scandinavians with similar last names, the recruiters thought he was another person. I don't know if he tried to get out, but he stayed in until the end of the war and then we changed our last name to Fredrickson so as to not get confused.

My great uncle played for the Welsh rugby team.

Also, not sure if he was my ancestor, but Robert the Bruce was from the same Clan as I am...

Well two of my great uncles (one of whom went to the same school I go to now) on my mother's side both fought and died in WW1 and on my father's side, my great grandfather fought in WW1.
I can't think of anyone famous, but this is pretty cool: On my mother's side, going way, way back, I have a number of ancestors who were all called Davy Jones, including one or two who were captains in the navy. Captain Davy Jones. I shit you not. I think they were Welsh.

I've kinda got a tie going down. First, through my dad, I'm related to John Wilkes Booth. Yeah, John "Sic Semper Tyrannus" Wilkes Booth. I'm pretty sure I'm legally barred from getting within 150 feet of the President.

On my mom's side, I'm related to Donald the III of Scotland, the crazy bloke that the minor character "Donalbaine" from Macbeth is based off of. Shakespeare wrote a couple verses about one of my ancestors. That's just cool to say, you know?

The Marquis de Sade. Got to love a guy who would torture fat people by standing them in between two large fires so their fat melts internally.

But now that I think about it, That might explain why my family reunions are so unpleasant

My great, great, etc. grandfather died by being drunk and stumbling out in front of a train.
It's sad that that's actually the most interesting person in my family. And my dad checked back a long way.

There are 26 generations between myself and Prince John of England (As in Robin Hood).
My family is descended from one of his daughters, who was married off to a baron.
