its really hard to choose because there are so many but i would have to say frankie boyle because he crosses those lines no one else dare cross, because he is not the comedian we need but the comedian we deserve, a comic warrior, a staunch protector, a dark knight.

seriously with comedy becoming more and more PG and people complaining more and more about "offensive" jokes and taking more and more backlash for being rude we need people like frankie boyle and to defend comedians rights to explore controversy and make rude and "offensive" jokes

He's fantastically middle-class, camp, and he shares my name.
Michael McIntyre!

Anyone here who has not seen one of Jim Jeffries's cramp-inducing routines needs to stop whatever worthless bullshit they're currently doing and take ten minutes to watch this right now. That's an order.
Seriously. Watch it, god damn it.
I'm not kidding. You will thank me.

If that video won't make you laugh out loud, you're a wrong person.

Here's one for Dara O'Briain...
My favourite quote from any comedian is from Dara -
'The last show I did, I had a 10 minute routine about homoeopathy, and what a crock of shit homoeopathy is. I don't have any homoeopathy jokes in this year's show - I feel that if I dilute my homoeopathy material it'll become much more powerful.'
He followed that up with 'If you got that - you're a nerd.'

OP, you want someone who tackles taboo issues?
Try Jim Jeffries.

It's a two-parter, so you'll need to click on a related video to watch the entire thing.

Or you can watch the other video I posted, which is a good deal shorter, but just as funny.

Either Jim Gaffigan,

Brian Regan,

or Gabriel Iglacias.

Although Marcus Brigstock is one of the best overall IMO, I just can't put him on my list because I can't find any full length routines from him.

Wow 15 comments and people aren't trying to kill each other over just how much of a douche Dane Cook is.

OT: I'm actually a pretty big fan of Daniel Tosh--I saw all his specials and when he hosted Live at Gotham before he got his show. I also like Louis CK, but I never get to see his stand up or show much because whenever I put it on the TV someone complains. Gaffigan and Nick Swarson are also pretty good.

Louis CK is definitely my favourite these days.

I give shout outs to Chappelle, Hedberg, Izzard, Murphy, Pryor. Plenty of entertainment there.

Glenn Wool can be really funny too.

Christopher Titus, no contest. He's fucking hilarious and I find him very relatable...though that may say something horrible about me and my family.

Here's a couple of my favorite bits.

I'm probably going to go with... Either Steve Hughes or George Carlin
It took 18 comments for someone to mention George Carlin... I am severely disappointed.

OT: George Carlin. No contest.

If there were runner up positions, though, they would go to:
2. Brian Regan
EDIT: Actually, tied for #2 is Robin Williams.

3. Jim Carrey
Unfortunately that's his only television-produced stand-up show that I've ever been able to find. He has a few clips circulating here and there, but that's the only full show I've heard of.

4. Christopher Titus

Mine is/was Mitch Hedberg. I loved the non sequiturs, and how he did the whole stand-up comedian thing wrong. There are many things in life that should be ho-hum to me, but there's a Mitch joke behind them that makes them wonderful.
