Why a Cookie?

I always thought that it came from the following situation.

IM chatroom:

Person A: *Brags about something awesome he did*
Person B: "Nice, want a cookie?" (sarcasm required)
Person A: "...Dude. Not cool. I wasn't bragging or anything" (clearly knows he was bragging and now feels awkward)
*Uncomfortable silence*
Person C: "Person B, I want one!!!" (trying to lighten the mood and let person A off the hook)
The cookie then becomes a positive thing.

I'm probably totally wrong though.

Also on a sidenot a had a teacher that promised this girl a cookie every time she got a question right. AT the end of the year she was so mad when she didnt get her three cookies...

...only three cookies for a whole year worth of questions? That girl doesn't deserve cookies...not even the peanut butter kind (ew).

It's actually kind of a joke here whenever someone does something simple and unimpressive but they say it like it's a big deal people (Or at least I) respond "Do you want a cookie or something?" I'm not sure that's true for ALL of america but where I live it certainly is.

So I wasn't too far off. Assuming of course that American parents act sardonically towards their children.

You just made me feel like the typical stupid american because I had to Google "Sardonically" Bravo sir.

But I've never really gotten a cookie as a reward even as a child, it's just a sarcastic joke to make you feel like a tard.

I trust with you this sacred advice I've learned in real life. Always have cookies with you, and tell people you'll reward them with one if they help you when they're reluctant.
