I only used to watch ZP because it was funny.

I never listened to any of his points because he is just one man, and his idea of fun could be your bane of existance.

I don't agree with 99.9% of what he says. Its why I never read one of his "extra punctuation" articles because they arn't all that funny (to me) and contain nothing that I agree with.

What is the .1% of things we agree on you ask?

I think boobs are stonking great as well.
How do you know they never contain anything you agree with if you 'never read one?'
The point of Extra Punctuation isn't to be funny, it's actually serious (most of the time.) It's also well written and thought-provoking.
Give it a go.

He reviews games like an artist creates a charicature.

He picks the points of interest and flaws out of the "face" of a game and inflates them to become the main points.

I can't disagree because he isn't wrong but I have to take it with a grain of salt because it's his duty to blow them out of proportion.

I haven't read all of these posts so it's definitely possible that someone has said this already, but Yahtzee (at least in Zero Punctuation) is much more of a comedian than a critic. The Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert comparison sums up Zero Punctuation wonderfully in my mind. I do agree with Yahtzee occasionally and especially when it comes to JRPGs, but I find that when I take him and his "reviews" seriously I am much less entertained. Plus, if I align myself with his opinions or as the original post said "[cling] on to his words like it [sic] was passed down from God himself," I end up resentful when his views contradict my own.

When he criticized Uncharted as being racist, I nearly fell out of my seat, because I had totally never even noticed it.

I disagree with quite a few of his analyses...the only thing we see pretty much the same is his thoughts on the jRPG genre.

I do really like his show though...he's a riot.

Do you always agree with Yahtzee? I have my disagreements with what he says sometimes, but that doesn't stop me from laughing and enjoying the game.
No, some of his 'reviews' are little more than entertaining rants, with little actual review taking place (for example the Sims 3). That said, I do find him entertaining to watch and enjoy the pace of it.

it's quite funny to like a game have a problem you ignore and then someone blows it out of proportion and you get a good laugh and say yeah I agree that was a problem (or at least that's what I do with his videos)

I've actually read half a dozen or so, hence why I am aware that I don't agree with them.

Anyway I've edited my post now =)

You fail to overlook the fact that maybe it's because Yahtzee has similar opinions on gaming as the rest of the escapist.

I watch his reviews because he's funny. He get's paid to rip on games. If you are seriously considering purchasing a game, his review should not be your first stop.

HE IS GOD!

He's got some good points and has an English accent. I already agree with a lot of what he has to say, even if he is as much of an entertainer as a critic.

I actually find myself agreeing with him a lot more then I think I will. He usually gives a bad view on most games so when i see a game I like on this list I think "oh dear, I'm going to hate Yahtzee" but what he says is truthfull or something that I over look. He does also give credit where credit is due and I agree with him on those points too.

I used him as a starting point, I find that most of his points are valid but there are things I like in a game that he does not so I keep that in mind but listen to what he says. Plus, usually I know what I am going to like when I see it in main stream games but I watch his reviews for things I've never heard of to see if it worth looking for.

I rarely ever completely agree with him, but so what? The man's hilarious and he does manage to bring up some good points. Thing is, I rarely hate any game. What a lot of people would call bad, I would at least call decent. In my 20 years of gaming, I can think of only five games off the top of my head that I would truly say are bad. And of those five, only two are complete pieces of garbage with no redeeming qualities.

So it's no surprise that I would disagree with a guy whose job is to criticize everything.

Yeah I agree with Yahtzee with a lot of points because most of the time it's true. He points out the flaws that could lower the quality and over all experience of the game, of course it's his opinion but for the people with the same eye, they become really interesting reviews as well as hilarious.

Even though I religiously watch ZP, I actually haven't bought a new video game in probably a year, and nor have I played one, either. I still play games, mind, but only my old ones and one certain online game.

So whenever I watch ZP, I really have no basis of comparison to the game. Whether or not I like it, whether things that bothered him bother me, things like that. I've seen every episode, and I guess I keep watching because he is witty and reliable. When he really lays into a game, he always manages to find a different or creative way to put it.

Yahtzee knows a thing or two about comedy, it's apparent in his work. Even though his opinions are serious, his presentation never fails to include proper timing, enunciating, and joke-callback to give it the entertainment we expect.

Wathcing ZP is kind of like watching The Soup on E!, I guess. The host there is kind of a jerk, but he's a funny jerk and gives a proper slap in the face to those morons and douches that are clouding up the celebrity lists these days. And, you don't even have to agree with him to find the entertainment value in what he says, or at the very least, how he says it.

He brings up fair points fairly often that I never realized before he said anything, plot holes, stereotypes, etc, and sometimes he really hits that mark on the games or bad parts in them. Sometimes I find myself thinking "No, I dont think so" to what he says, and every once in a while, "No Yahtzee, your totally wrong. Are we even playing the same game?" Then I can here him saying "Well you arent a fucking reviewer, so shut the hell up, what do you know," or something along those lines.

But he even said it himself. People dont find it as funny when he likes a game, so he targets the bad parts and beats on those a lot. He usually gives it a fiar review, considering how tough a critic he is in the end, but he still focuses on the bad for his reviews.

D&A has a good interpretation of what "Lord" Yahtzee's fanboys are like. Too many people blindly agree simply because they think he is funny. Anyway, sometimes I agree, sometimes I disagree. Often I haven't played the game he is reviewing but I don't take anything he says to heart. Reviews are subjective and Yahtzee doesn't decide for me what games I want to play.
It's not just the humor that these people glom on to, although I'm sure it's a big factor. A lot of people come in here after seeing ZP and assume that the best way to get in good with community is to endlessly praise Yahtzee by lauding his opinions and attacking anyone who has a dissenting viewpoint.

ZP used to be a lot funnier when the jokes where more or less directed at overused cliches and uninteresting design features that continually get shoehorned in by game companies, as well ripping on games that are confusingly popular in a manner that was tactlessly accurate. Now it seems that Yahtzee concentrates mainly on attempting to insult the maximum number of potential viewers with every episode, as well as peddling his crappy merchandise. So not only has he become a totally unlikable jerk, he's also a complete sellout.
Don't forget his laziness, mate! He doesn't even finish the games he reviews anymore, nor does he do any research on them. Nier is not made by Square-Enix, it's made by Cavia and PUBLISHED by Square-Enix. Nier is not a "Sims" like game, it's a an action JRPG. His last video had so much potential (what with Nier having so many things to *****/make fun of), but instead it showed how much of a lazy fucker he's become. He's an asshole who makes WAY too many cock jokes (seriously, what was it with Nier that made him think of dicks so much?) and rehashes invalid points while peddling his shitty wears (a novel, Yahtzee? Really? You can barely write a review!).
