Why all the fighting?

The console wars have been going on for quite some time and probably won't stop. But I ask WHY?
You like what you like and I like what I like. Any hate you throw toward my console of choice won't change my mind on the console. Just like my hate shouldn't make you dislike whichever console you side with. I know that there are some people who must have everything, and even they have a favorite. The only thing that is going to make me change my opinion is if the company starts making a crappy product. Like IMO, Nintendo has. (I used to love Nintendo until the N64 came out.) I've been loyal to PS ever since.
So why, I ask, must there be so many "flame-fests" about the consoles?
You like XBox and XBL?! Good for you. I like PS3 for its controller and versatility. And you like the Wii because...... it's fun? That's just dandy. We don't see eye to eye. Big freakin deal. Let's drop it and move on with our lives.

Now a console war would be awesome if all the consoles sprouted limbs, wielded weapons and actually duked it out.

I own multiple platforms and these "flame fests" don't really bother me. I suppose it might bother me if I loyally only played on playstation and some mere peasant said something disrespectful about Sony-sama.

This. The console 'wars' are quite tame really. There are all sorts of interesting people that fight based on differences and segregation.

1) The religious kooks
2) The Racial elitists (I've met Black people that are convinced all white people are actually demons)
3) The Gender Warriors

Even though most of the people in this 'war' are extremely immature, they are just kids after all. Or to be more precise 33-year old kids who role-play and enjoy LARPing and still live with their parents. I wouldn't worry about it too much, anyone who spends their time defending a company that makes millions of dollars is simply wasting their time. It's not like their opinions actually matter. :)

You've just seen the MW2 Auto-aim thread, yes?

Y'know how you'd correct someone if they said something blatantly wrong like... oh, I don't know... "The capital of Germany is Denmark". Well, when someone starts a flame war about an opinion, it's usually because they believe the evidence for their opinion to be so strong that anyone who disagrees is as wrong as the hypothetical person in the example who was so ignorant about European geography.

Well, that's most of the flamers. The rest are just trying to make you angry.

Conflict is human nature. It is how we define the value of an object or individual, in comparison to others through conflict. that's all competition really is.

Seconded.

Everyones always going to find something to fight about. As long as there is more then one side to things, theres going to be conflict. Douchey, I know, I just try to stay clear of it all and I reckon you should too.

As much as I hate console wars, I hate PC Elitism even more.

Sometimes simplicity is a good thing in games, not everything needs 5 million complex options and strategies to be fun.

Also, these people need to just accept the fact that some people prefer the feel of controllers to a mouse (I play on both PC and console and much prefer controllers)

I now know what keyborad you will love to have!

people tend to be tech dumbasses and mistake the purpose of the console and cannot admit that most of the them are non-technical geeks, the commercialisation also tends to be a factor as some people tend to have "faith" in the company.

Well for me it was all very silly that a fan will stick up for a company they are'nt being paid by and I wouldent be suprised if sony/microsoft/whoeverelse actually hire people to go around "flaming" each other's consols to sway prospective buyers the mere fact that we have a verb for such an action just symbolises how degraded thing's have become.

Quote me if you agree or have something to add.

i was expecting to see ZOIDBERG!

OT
because people want to create self confidence that theyve made the right choice in their purchase.

also because people are pricks on the internet as their is no accountability and there are many stupid people on it.
