I have noticed that many people on this site as well as some of my friends have a low opinion of the website IGN. Most frequently their reviews have been called "biased" as well as other negative terms describing the site. I don't hate them, infact I don't see much of a diference in their reviews from anyone elses. So why has IGN earned so much hate from the community, is there something they did that I missed, or are they simply a scapegoat?

I think that they sell good reviews to anyone willing to pay money. I don't know for sure, but thats the impression I get from the people who hate it.

They gave God Hand a very bad review with many indications of having not actually played the game past the first level.

Well, that's my reason anyway. I generally don't vocally hate on them except to say that I don't find their reviews very useful, so I more or less ignore them.

People are hating IGN now? It seems just last week that Gamespot was the "biased, sellout" game website. Probably someone got pissed for them giving a good score to game they didn't like or a bad one to one that they did, and their hatred caught on. I haven't seen IGN do anything evil.

I don't know; I don't read IGN. Tell you what though, do you want a magazine worth mocking? I'll give it to you in two words:

Game Informer.

Now THERE'S a publication worth making fun of.

Well from what I've seen of their reviews, they don't often play very far into the game before reviewing it, OR they play it badly and blame the game.

Because they suck Microsoft's balls.

You look at anything and it's almost guaranteed that they'll give anything that's on the 360 a better review than any other console. They're biased as fuck, hardly ever know what they're talking about they're responsible for this:

Fuck you, IGN

Because, at one point or another, they made a review of a game that someone disagreed with. Therefore they are biased. OBVIOUSLY.

I don't hate IGN I just don't pay attention to it anymore. Basically all the Halos and GTAs and Gears of Wars get automatic 10s. Actually, it seems like everything gets a 10 from IGN.

They play it safe with all of their movie reviews. Everything is pretty much rated between 6-8.

Basically everyone who doesn't like X website is generally because they are biased in some way against that person's opinions.

Not IGN AU my friend. If anything they are PS3 biased. I think if you average the score and comments between IGN US, IGN UK and IGN AU you get an accurate representation of a game. That's what I do.

IGN seem to be first with the scoops which is why I check their site often. Gamespot on the other hand has really deteriorated.

Wasn't IGN the website that fired a reviewer/reporter for not writing a positive review of some game?
just checked: that was gamespot.

I find IGN rather a lackluster site and it focusses to much on consoles, which i hardly care for as a mostly PC-gamer. I also find them a bit too positive for my taste on the few games i do have/play on my Xbox, i think the reviewers are on anti-depressants.
I find the video reviews from gametrailers better and easier anyway.

In all honesty, I do check IGN AU since they do lean a bit more in favor of PS3 (my favorite system) but they can still be very biased about it to the point of where I am like "Okay, what the fuck?"

And what has Gamespot deteriorated from? They were never good!

I, for one, was appalled to see one of the most interesting games on the PS2 get a 3 out of 10. >_>
Meh, to each their own.

Most of IGN's older (talking Playstation - Dreamcast) reviews are really well done, and I agree with a lot of them to boot.
That isn't to say I hate their newer stuff - I just don't consider them to be the "best."
