Creativity.

Like how someone ask "What would you ask your ten year old self?" That's thinking outside the box. . .Maybe deserving the asylum, but outside the box none the less.

I'm not sure. The only things my topics have failed at is getting badges; a comparatively minor failure, since I've always had my questions answered.

Its okay, some of mine's are too.

Just do something original. People will posts, and bumps help if you really think the topic could succeed.

Not at all, your Genre Wars Avatars thread was a rousing success.

Anyway, I know what you mean, my threads have been pretty bad, largely because they were uncreative and left little room for discussion. My only one that can be considered a success by any measure was a review. I've been here for a while though, so I just accept it. I'm a commenter, I can't start discussions, but I can carry them out,

haha, I like this topic.

I think I have some good topics but never found it prudent to post them.

So is it worst to try and fail, or not try at all?

You my friend are in a better off than I.

You need to be either offensive, so-ignorant-someone-HAS-to-correct-you, or in rare cases, people post something insightful.

So are mine. I don't think any of them got above 45 replies. Mind you, mine are pretty specific, so I guess people read what's there and have run out of things to post.

Polls seem to get a lot of hits regardless of what they're about. I don't know if that's a good piece of advice or not. Don't feel bad; I think as long as you get the content you wanted, the thread is a success. I ahd a thread with less than 20 replies I'm pretty sure, but I got the info I needed, so all was well and good.

Just keep trying if you really want to earn some badges.

Same as Orannis - Except for having been here a while.
I can't make threads worth shit. I remember the first ones only got a short answer, and about 2 or 3 pages. But I'm living okay (I've got a box on my head, that's just my thing)
But I have no problems accknowledgning that. I'm just a minor person in this community - contributing with what I have

Current news or the annoying topics involving religion, homophobes or guns seem to just fly off on the escapist. But sometimes some random topic like the Hollies or the Battle thread that everyone can participate in became very popular, they reached up to 2000 replies.

Why are your topics failures?

Why, it's so simple. Elementary, really.

You fail. That's why.

....No, not really. I'm just pulling your leg. Normally outrageous topics catch my eye... Or things like this. XD

Polls, even stupid ones, equals more responses. I've created several topics that no one responded to just to have someone else post the exact same thing in a much worse fashion and get tons of response from. Thing is, they added a poll.

If you could give me links to your previous threads, I'd be able to tell you what is wrong with them.

It might not actually be any fault of yours though. Could just be that we have so many users creating topics now that even a good thread can pass from the first page completely unnoticed.

I don't make that many threads, all but about three of mine thus far have been failures.
One was because I was a silly forum youngun and didn't consider the rules.
Another was because I got bored of it and left the thread to die.
Another one failed because when I was away the other participants in the thread decided to lauch into about seven pages worth of confusing space battles.

I wouldn't consider them failures, but the two Forum games I have made haven't lasted as long as I would have liked, probably since they're not as easy to access as your typical "post one sentence then you are done" forum game.

ORLY WEL WEN I TIPE W/ MI DIK I MAHS ALL DA KEYZ AT 1NC LOLOLOL

That very well may be, but the response often has little or nothing to do with the topic at hand.
And that's my bad, I have a condition.
Look, I don't care how many abortions you want our school children to have, I'm telling YOU to keep your hands off MY child. I happen to raise them to value the sanctity of life, and marriage!

Keep your laws off my Bible, because when push comes to shove, I obey a higher authority than your corrupt activist judges.

Also, Jews.

...Don't hear that every day.

Most of my threads have sucked. Appart from the D&D one, that did okay. Don't feel too bad, there is a fair bit of luck involved aswell.

I'd like to think I'm a little more subtle than that.
Then again, so is a wrecking ball made of kitten bones.
Oh, of course.

I just like acting out examples of how NOT to do something.

For some reason I really want to see a demotivational caption of that wrecking ball now.

-Creativity: Make it an actual interesting topic.
-Originality: Make sure it's something that either hasn't been talked about before, or not in a long time.
-Effort: Put some effort into your thoughts on the subject, rather than just making the thread and asking what everyone thinks.
-Relativity: If you do put some effort into your topic, make sure everything is relevant, or you'll just look like an idiot.
-Grammar: Proper punctuation, paragraphing, and vocabulary is everything when you make a thread. If you fail to use proper grammar, people will likely not bother to read it, or shun you for it.
-Accuracy: If you start talking about your own topic, make sure everything you say on it is as accurate as possible, or it can result in you being rather humiliated.
