Why are developers getting so much hate over stupid things

From Mass Effect 3's ending, to Overstrike becoming Fuse, to Dante's new look, gamers have been complaining about the most frivolos things over years. Whether it a change in artstyle, gameplay that differs from what was previously established, it's annoying that people are willing to hate on developers like Bioware, Insomniac, and Viseral Games. I get it that places like E.A are horrible companies, but some of the people there, like Bioware and Viseral, do nothing but create amazing games, listen to fan's, and respect the gaming community as a whole to almost jesus like standards, and yet their fans will act like spoil brats when they decide to try something new or mix up something in one of their franchises. Agree or disagree? You think gamers complain about the dumbest things? Do they act like spoiled, insecure brats when something changes?

Sometimes yes. In the case of many things that people scream "entitlement" or "Spoiled brats" over no. If EA is involved then they probably have a legitimate complaint.

It will always happen with sequels, they make a game, people like this game and it grows a fanbase. They make a sequel, they expand on it to try and capture a bigger audience, the original audience dislikes these changes and are very annoyed since they were expecting to like it like they did the first one.

Now those fans complain, this happens again and again with multiple game and the same people, the fans now hate that developer/publisher and will always see offense or get annoyed.

Alternatively always blame publishers because a lot of those guys suck.

I'm not sure disagreeable changes to the gameplay or a poor ending to a story-driven franchise can really be called stupid complaints. The presentation of such complaints can be quite whiny and I wouldn't want to discourage experimentation, but if people don't let them know that they dislike certain elements then we'd probably never get any games we actually liked.

People tend to have a harsh reaction to change, especially if its a change in something they really liked. I suppose its the notion of "I loved it before! so why did they change it?", its an easy trap to fall in to, and I'm sure we've all wondered the same thing from time to time. The fact that the internet gives anonymity and and outlet for these complaints makes it really easy to be voiced en mass.

And though I agree we should raise our voices for things we don't like, because that is what will allow the games industry to focus and refine its direction. But we have to be careful about that reaction. The harsher people react to change, the more frightened the industry will be to push innovation.

Hoo, boy, there we go again. Sweeping complaints under the rug of "frivolous" and "trivial". While not even presenting and/or understanding them

OK, I agree, it's a stupid thing. The ending is quite stupid. Why are people acting against it that bad?

I've got no idea about thus.

If only people would decide to not cite a single thing that is not even the centre of complaints for DmC... Seriously, I think I've seen only two camps - people with legitimate complaints, and people claiming the complaints are only whining for the looks of Dante. With few people here and there that do only complain about it but they would normally have been a non-factor.

It's more annoying when other people are willing to hate on them for the most trivial of reasons they've heard of and then class anything they don't like as that trivial reason.

Oh, right...so did you miss that ME thing? I thought you knew about it, because you mentioned it. Also, you mentioned DmC. I just found it funny.

No, I think some gamers complain about dumb things. You know, like any human group ever. I think other people weed out the dumbest of complaints they find and then decide that any complaint ever is the same.

Because people who like things dont complain. Or people have different priorities. I would consider the ending to a trilogy more than "frivolous," for example.

This exactly.

In fact, I'm not really sure why you bothered to respond to his points in detail, since he clearly wouldn't spare the same courtesy for all us whiny gamers.

Many people will argue that dragon Age 2 was far from an amazing game. also the Bioware forum moderation isn't exactly that great.

And like other people already mentioned, you simplyfied those complaints by a lot there.

Oh whatever. I'm so exhausted with this. Didn't people get this out of their system back in March? Why is this a thing, this year? Like the idea of pissy consumers JUST occurred to us, and we're SHOCKED.

I think we covered this shit then, but a recap since you're obviously late to the party.

1. There is no "gamers".

2. Whether or not a complaint is "dumb" is highly subjective. I imagine you complain about things, from time to time. You're probably convinced your own complaints are highly cogent. Others probably think they're spurious as hell.

3. Complaining and ranting gives people a dopamine hit. Getting angry gets them high. It's why people come to the forums to pick fights with "entitled" or "spoiled" gamers, too, Captain Hypocrite.

4. Developers need to stop throwing down the sad artist card every time someone calls them out on some bullshit. This industry is a BUSINESS, and they've been running it like a business for many years now. Very, very rarely does a game come along that feels like a genuine work of art or labor of love, as opposed to a PRODUCT. Dealing with customer dissatisfaction with your PRODUCT is part and parcel of being in business and selling things to people for profit.

And frankly, even if they do want to play the art card, criticism of your art comes with the territory, too. If you're selling the fucking things, doubly so. And they don't need you to champion their cause for them. They have IGN, Gamespot and 100 other websites on the PR payroll waiting to pen another missive about "gamer entitlement complex" then next time a game launches with $50 of day one DLC or more bugs than content.

Yeah people can be whiny little shits when games don't turn out EXACTLY how they want. They engage in wild hyperbole because it gets them threadviews and because their righteous indignation is giving them a fix. Depending on your mood and what's concerning you at the time, it might seem incredibly stupid. Like if you just found out you have cancer, maybe you don't care so much that EA wants to charge you $10 for an extra alien in your crew.

But this "oh won't someone think of the corporations!" nonsense is deeply, deeply retarded. They are selling products to you for MONEY. This is quid pro quo. They are not doing you favors. You are their customer, not their friend. Stop over identifying FFS.

I don't really see how pointing at a turd and saying, "Oi, I think that's a turd!" is frivolous or bratty.

Hey, stop being the E word! Calling a turd a turd is bitching. You should respect the turd and the ass that made it. Because it cares for you.

Speaking generally, you have the right to like something and complain about it. Just because you're a fan, doesn't mean you can't cast a critical eye on something you like.

Anyone who subscribes to that ideal shouldn't even be in this forum. You obviously won't be contributing anything to the discussion anyway.
