Why are elites in Halo 3 (multiplayer) so often discriminated against? Dumb topic I know, I'm bored

I highly doubt racism has anything to do with it guys. I don't have a very high opinion of the XBL community either, but I really don't think any of them hate playing as an alien species. It's just that, when faced with an alien or a space marine, the space marine often wins out in the 'coolness department.' Even the 'real' racists on XBL are probally just twats who act racist when they have anonymity.

Factor in the Elites' limited armor options and their percieved easier target - which is actually pretty wrong since I see people play Elites all of the time in the SWAT modes, where headshots are the name of the game - and you have a more rarely-used character.

I, for one, use the Spartan because he looks cooler. Also, the Elite looks a little stupid using any of the human vehicles, which is irritating because I like the human vehicles. And no, I don't use Hayabusa although I DO have it all unlocked; I just use my own, personal armor combination that I find cool.

Well then.. MEET ME!!
I love Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War 1 and 2, Half Life 2, Portal, Call of Duty (to an extent), Oblivion, Fable, Otogi, Dead Space, Soul Calibur, Saint's row 2 and a few others, all these games as far as I know are not Halo.
So hi, pleased to meet you. i am a Halo fan yet I acknowledge the existance of of other games too.

I play Halo a lot and I hate it. The only reason I play it is because it's the only game all of my friends have. I would much rather be playing Tiger Woods 08.

This is true.

There is definitely a difference between the two, but the difference is so insignificant that a player with any skill won't notice or be bothered by it. Elites are harder to hit from behind, that's why 90% of the people playing SWAT use Elites. Elites are bigger targets, thats why 90% of the people playing any other game type use Spartans. Plus, EVERYONE can play as EITHER, so it's not like some people are at a disadvantage.

My roommate told me it's because they have slightly bigger heads and are thus easier to headshot. In reality I don't know either.

i was told its because that and there heads are at the chest so its easier for head shots since there an easy target, whetever i love elites too

I don't really mind, the game is still fun but I'm sick of being shouted at by morons who think that I somehow suck because of my looks.

I know it's just hyperbole, but are you seriously comparing being mistreated because of race in real life to being cursed at by a bunch of homophobic little fuckers on Xbox Live because you pick a different character than they do?

Agree with this. Vrex, buddy, I think you maybe over-exaggerated on this one. Martin Luther King (Jr. by the way) fought hard and risked his life in order to try and earn equal civil liberties for an entire race of people who had been enslaved and discriminated against for more than one hundred years. You...are trying to get pricks on Xbox Live to stop making fun of you because you like to play as an Elite. Little bit of a difference there.

As I always do, I recommend you just ignore the little buggers who are making fun of you. After all, they're only lashing out because they have worse lives than you do.

Thanks for the advice, I was actually over exaggerating on purpose, you know for a jokes sake. But thanks.

Could this count for any game that allows different character models in a multiplayer game ?

where people hate the other just because he/she chose a different character model ?

hmmmm

i can't really prove my theory since there are very few games where multiplayer character models are different enough for people to have to say something about them

Resistance 2 seems to be the only one where character models are different enough
but i so far i haven't seen any complaints.

From my experiance in Halo 3 all i can say is because people are so used to seeing Spartans that when they see a Elite there view of the game changes since there is a change in enemy

I thought the same thing...but I always put it down to needing to unlock the Elite class online, so I asked, needless to say I made alot of 10 year olds day that day. Have to agree that they are cooler looking Halo#s still meh imo though.
