I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm totally out of the loop here) that most of the people who is buying Skyrim on release have been waiting for around 5 years since oblivion, and are naturally pretty hyped since this game is going all out.

Lets see....buy the game at release...be badass...wait until awesome DLC...get MP...download it...continue in DLC being a badass...

Also having the GOTY/SUPAH edition can have issues...I had a GOTY of Fallout 3 at level 2 I had to kill a Super Mutant Overlord with a damn Hunting Rifle...and I found a Enclave dude near the SuperDuper Mart....

Well I'll be getting it the day of, so I can play it for funsies:)I do like the idea of supporting Bethesda, because let's be honest they deserve it. I'm also getting the game several months sooner than if I waited for the ultimate edition, which means months of slicing dragons (AWESOME!)

And I can get the DLC's for Microsoft points when they come out, eliminating the need for me to wait and get the ultimate edition. Better all around for me

To me Bethesda games are some of the only ones I feel are worth $60, when compared to most games that might last five hours and bored me to tears. I'm not trying to sit here and bash other games, just to explain why I'm looking forward to Skyrim and shall purchase on release day.

Why watch the Avengers movie on release night? Why not wait until it's on matinee? Or wait until you can rent the DVD? Or wait until it's on basic cable?

Sometimes people like new things when they're new, or want to experience them as soon as possible.

Why not say the same thing about Dragon Age Origins?

Or LA Noire

Or GTA: IV

Seriously, a lot of games do the same thing.

We buy those games now because they are *good* and we want to play them now, not later.
[/thread]

We've waited, we're pumped - yes, expacks and DLC are right around the corner, but I think it's safe to say that those who are interested in Skyrim honestly do not give a shit at this point, OP. We've all gone Larfleeze for this piece of pressed silicone and we all want it.

So very, very much.

Or at least, I do. As for the DLC, well... It'll all depend on its quality. If it's bitching, then micro-transactions will be made. If it's middling or mediocre, expect some folks to head to their nearest friendly neighborhood torrent tracker. DLC rarely is a valid argument for delaying the purchase of a game, when you're this much pumped.

Well, I wanted to wait for the eventual GOTY edition, but then my dastardly retailer slapped gift silvered steel Dragonborn lockets, selected soundtrack discs and lithographs as limited pre-order bonus.

The bastards.

I'm going to do my old Bethesda tactic:

Wait until the entire thing is on Steam for about $7.

I won't buy the DLC as it comes out, I'll get it on sale or as a GOTY at a later date.
But I'll be damned if I'm going to miss out on having the game as early as possible!

Who's buying the game twice?

I've never bought the rereleases of their games.

If a game's first gameplay trailer gives me goosebumps just watching it because of the setting and the epic music, it has to be a day 1 purchase. It went for Gears of War 3, it goes for Batman Arkham City (but that was more the fact of 'THEY'RE DOING A SEQUEL?' followed by a lot of happy dancing) and it goes for Skyrim. Also, Harry Partridge's video pretty much sums up my reaction.

Now before anyone gets mad or assumes this is some sort of anti-Skyrim thread, it's not. I'm not bashing the game, the developer or anyone who is interested in it.

But let's look at Oblivion and Fallout 3. Both of those games were eventually given expansion packs, and then re-released as a game that contained the original game plus all of the expansion packs. Sometimes these were cheaper than the original game.

So assuming that's going to happen with Skyrim, why buy it now? Is it just a matter of impatience? Do people want to support Bethesda by possibly buying the game twice?

Is there anyone reading this who does just plan on buying it once the Game of the Year edition comes out?

Just curious.
Because I'm getting it on PC, and I'll have better, more creative mods by the end of the year than Bethesda will ever release.

lol
let me boil that question down for you so you realize how stupid it sounds
"Why do you buy things now when they are much cheaper later?"

nothing to do with impatience
it's normal... if you want something and can afford it then you do it
pretty much every thing is cheaper later...

i can go even further
"why buy the special edition if you can wait just one more year to get it at half the price?"

please think about this question again...

Why is no one allowed to do anything without being seized, interrogated and then chastised for not using perfect logic? I'm buying it because I want to buy it, it's called enjoyment. Yeah, I might be able to buy it with all the DLC in a few months time, but I want to play it now.

Because if no-one bought the game so they could get a later version with DLC, it would have god-awful sales initially and they wouldn't bother making DLC, and so the series would be killed off

1. To support the developers.
2. I will not wait any longer.
3. Pre-order bonuses.
4. I can play the DLC as it comes out, for I am not poor.
5. It's motherfucking Elder Scrolls.
