Why are people so ashamed to play Runescape and other games?

I don't hate the Wii, but I have lost any respect for Nintendo.

My younger brother plays the game; Im not coplaining about it, Im just putting my feelings across.

(He took my level 80 (I think) character and is now way over level 100...it must be getting easier too)

My quote button is broken =(

swear runescape was java?

anyway people hate mmorpgs because the way to get good in them is either buying a char, donating a shed load of money, or giving all your spare time into grinding into them and get shocked when the gamers who play either kill someone for withholding their game, or die from lack of sleep/food/water.

I guess the media has dubbed those types of games "uncool" to play if you aren't a child.

I have nothing against people who used to play Runescape. I laugh at people who play it past the age of about 12.
Well that's pretty douchey of you. My Mom (Yes, My mother) plays runescape, why is that wrong/bad?

the reason they get insulted for playing Runescape is because Runescape is, by all accounts, a terrible game in every way imaginable.

Its not that its a bad game as such, its just, really geeky! If that makes any sense?

This is why

And it all depends on what people find acceptable.

Things like Final Fantasy, Dragon Ball z, Pop music, Halo have opinions that are so imbalanced if it were the chlorine level in the pool it would cause the pool to be dirtier then a swamp and blind children at the same time.

I am not ashamed to say I still play Pokemon (Pokemon Gold mind, can't be doing with the 5 million new pokemon), The Sims 2 and occassionally Runescape.

As for why people are ashamed to admit it, I don't know. Most people have played RS at one point in their life, probably because of the lack of fancy graphics and you don't need a flashy computer or console to play it on. I'll admit RS is not a great game but it passes the time.

You shouldn't be ashamed or let it affect what other people think about you or something that you do. Like playing Runescape or listening to Insert any genre. I don't play Runescape, but I don't make fun of people who play it. If I did play it, I couldn't care less about what other people thought about that.

It's ignorant, pretentious and juvenile. Many people can be defined as such, but it does not mean you should care about such things.

I guess the main reason for games (amongst other things) to be ridiculed is that they are popular amongst kids. If something becomes popular and people think that 10-year-olds play it, they start to make fun of it.

People care way too much about what other people think about them or something that they do. There are also way too many people that are ignorant, pretentious and juvenile, partly causing that.

It's generally only little kids who knock RS. As an adult who has played it I can see that the combat mechanic is a bit rubbish, the community is worse than anything you'll see on XBOX live and of course the graphics are limited by what they can put through a browser based JAVA aplet.

But the writing is excellent and funny, the puzzles are insanely hard and the leveling is addictive.

In-game you'll see every day kids claiming "I have 2 X360s and a PS3 I'm only on here because I'm bored of MW2" or "I'm only on here because by XBOX redringed" or "I only came on here because I like to mock you losers" it's pretty pathetic.

Nothing wrong with the game, except it's not really marketed for hardcore gamers. It's free and casual, and doesn't require a decent gaming rig. It's designed for children who'll probably grow out of it once they've got money for other systems and adults who have no interest in being hardcore gamers and will probably play forever.

My problem is why no-one knows the rules, they're displayed pretty prominently. And yet in this thread alone there are three references to account sharing and one to gold buying. And people are surprised when their accounts get stolen. Morons.

I don't know about Runescape, but I used to have an account on Neopets. For the Record, I had only cool pets, like the Jetsam and the evil T-Rex thing, however that doesn't really excuse me from playing kids games, lol.

I played it so much years back that my friends would give me their account names and passwords so I could play the games I was good at for them to get them points. That inevitably drove me away from the site because I got sick of playing for everyone (Seriously. i had like.. 10 screennames with passwords to play with)

EPIC RESURRECTION

Well it's just bad and most people grow out of it pretty quick.
