Why are people so ashamed to play Runescape and other games?

I laugh at people who are member on Runescape. If you're going to pay for an MMO, make sure you at least pay for a good one and get your moneys worth. I don't care if people play it for free. I did, and I liked just running into the wilds and having people chase me.

Never played Runescape, but I did play Free Realms on and off last year. Despite being almost 30. Heh. It has basically zero depth, but it makes pretty colors happen on my screen when I push buttons, and it's a decent way to pass time when you've got 15 minutes to kill and are bored of Plants vs. Zombies or whatever else you have laying around. It's surprisingly well polished compared to even most paid MMOs, and while most of it is just Massively Single-Player Cooking Mama/Bejeweled, stuff like the trading card game is actually half decent, as long as you know better than to spend real money on it. Disabling/minimizing the chat also really helps, because holy crap are a lot of 12-year-olds obnoxious. Not all of them, but still...

I'd also probably still be playing Pokemon if I had a handheld newer than a Game Boy Color (which I bought specifically to play the original Pokemon games) or they'd come out with a non-Coliseum-style console game with an actual single-player game in it.

Pfft whatever. I play this gae "FATE" and "FATE UNCHARTED RELMS" and it's pretty much Diablo jr. with polymorphing pets, fishing and more colors. But you know what. I think it's actually better then diablo, i mean it's practically a clone..only real difference is that there are no actual classes. But whatever, it installs right to you hd and every once on a while i just do some dungeon diving. It's goodtimes.

I play Runescape. There, I said it. What do I care what you guys think?
So you guys say you don't like Runescape. Whatever, that's your opinion on the game, but who are you to criticize someone else's opinion of something that's completely subjective?

Don't feel ashamed of playing Runescape. If you find it fun, then play it, and everyone who criticizes you for it can go to hell in a handbasket.
I understood this a couple years ago. I've learned not to care what other people think. I wear my Runescape logo T-shirt with pride.

(For those of you that play, you can add me- Klagermister. I'm currently in the Telekinetic Theatre at the mage training arena.)

Because they are boring video games that take little to no skill.
Basically, the more time you put into it, the better your character is. And if your character is better, you'll almost always beat anything below your character's level.

It's all about who can level faster, not about who has the better reflexes, strategy, etc.

It seems to me that most of the people who dont like runescape specifically (as opposed to MMOs in general) dont like it just because its unpopular, rather than for any real reason. Also, pokemon games always have been, and always will be, awesome.

I have nothing against people who used to, or even still do, play them. I actually still play pokemon, and I own every game up to Ruby and Sapphire. But I use an emulator to speed through everything lol. But Runescape is shallow, the combat sucks, and they rarely update for non-members. The only thing I like(d) about it is the various things and skills you had. You could smith, mine, fish and whatnot to make money or your own equipment. There are a lot of cool skills. But some (most of the cool ones) are only accessible or useful to members. If they made it entirely free, or at least a one time payment I'd probably go back.

Don't know about Runescape, but I understand about Pokémon. Mostly It's the anime's fault. The original Japanese version is kiddy as hell, 4Kids makes it even more kiddy, at the point that you get ten years younger with each season. -_-'' People see the show and think the games are the same. They're not that kiddy, if not for the fact that you control a freaking 12 years old that in the arch of a few months defeats people who has been doing this for decades, but up to Emerald, the games were still good. Then, they started putting in Pokémon who control space and time and stuff like they were candy. Then, it got silly. Not kiddy, just... Silly.

And it all depends on what people find acceptable.

Things like Final Fantasy, Dragon Ball z, Pop music, Halo have opinions that are so imbalanced if it were the chlorine level in the pool it would cause the pool to be dirtier then a swamp and blind children at the same time.
Well, I doubt he will be getting it back now, all those gold sites are against the rules, I assume. Should never spend that much money on Runescape. Ever.

OT: Its a game aimed at kids. 'Kiddies First MMO'. It is probably considered better to play WoW.

Generally, it's because the games aren't brown enough.

Nothing angers hardcore gamers like a game that has some friggin' color in it.

Frankly I'm amazed every game doesn't just come with a little slider in the main menu so the player can set the brownness manually.

I know many people well over the age of 12 that play RS. I think it is a great starter game and if you played it as a 12 years old then go back and play 5+ years later i don't see what is wrong with that. I am 19 i play it on occasion with my GF and before you get started in to that bull shit crap of is it a RS gf or real life. It is real life not that it matters. Tough back to my point. I am sure many of you played the classic Mario when you were a child. I still go on RS on occasion and even when i was a kid i didn't play it much. my account is over 8 years old and i let my friends play it and even my siblings use it for the simple fact it is a decent free game. If your complaining about RS and wasting money you don't have to be a member. I know a game that people waste 10x the amount payed monthly for RS members in other games in a week. A great example is Perfect World International. I know people that have dropped over 1,000$ in that game in a month. Perfect world is also a free game you don't have to pay to play they have items you can buy from an ingame market. As for the grinding ALL games involve grinding in some fashion maybe not as much as RS or Perfect world. All in all i think RS is fun and people who hate on others who play it are just looking to put some one down because something in their life sucks or they played it and didn't like it there for everyone who does is lame or some other BS..

Because its so simplistic anyone over the age of 12 should not be playing.

Easy puzzles, "kiddy" graphics / sound effects, laughable combat. Its obvious Jagex know they have a large "Kid" audience just from the "special events".

I used to play the game before it completly sold out.
Good lord, you've never done a sliding puzzle, three times in a row before, have you?

OT: I play it on and off, whenever I've gotten bored of other games, as the quests are pretty unique, as are the special areas you can go, and it makes a bit change from Shooting things up, more relaxing.

I was reading this Thread about games people are embaressed to play and It came up when I heard this game laughing at his friend after hearing he played runescape when he was younger.

For those of you who dont know, Runescape is a Flash based MMORPG and is quite fun in my opinion. Yet for years People are ridiculed for even going on the site for some reason im trying to figure out.

The same goes with pokemon. Just cause i played it when I was 5 and I still play it once in a while doesnt mean that I am a Dork. It just means that i love seeing my arodactyl rip apart a wild pokemon.

All in all why and how do certain games become targets by people to make fun of you. You have to keep it on the hush hush now that you know that I play them ok.

(BTW dont ask for my Username because i was banned and i refuse to play again)
It's actually java based. But I think the reason is because it is just a bad game. If they want to play a free MMO go play knight online or DDO.

From what I understand, the whole game has a somewhat thrown-together feel and the average Runescape player is uber immature.

That's second hand information, though. I never deigned to do more than view some gameplay videos of it.
