The first post was a gateway topic, I must now be addicted to this thread?

Due to the amount of misinformation present, I balled up and made an account from which to disabuse certain ignorant notions I've seen bandied about.

But first off this...

In response to number one, get a clue. Also, you must be high now if you say it has no negative effects... Performing even the simplest tasks becomes very difficult, even dangerous when under the influence. Take driving for example. Your perception of speed, as well as your response time is greatly altered. Also, the government would actually profit greatly if marijuana was legalised... Considering the price of a pack of smokes has gone from $8 to about $16 in the last 5 years imagine the revenue they would get from taxing legal weed.
So XinfiniteX since you seem to know all about how much money they'd make on legalizing weed, why don't they? Let me throw a few buzzwords your way. Prison Industry Complex? 1/4th (or 1/5th depending on sources) of prisoners are in prison for drug use. The Prison industry is over 100 Billion Dollars annually!!! So yeah, I think they make more money the way things are.
I really liked the part where you ignored the bulk of my comment to which you seem to have nothing to say... You know, the part where I posted legitimate issues that are linked to marijuana use...

Oh and by the way, if you got something to say then use your account to say it. Nailz... joined 13 July 2010... Posts: 1. Hmmmm

I'm pretty sure the cells freed up by releasing drug users would be filled quickly with other criminals. After all, cons are being released into house arrest because there is no room in state and federal prisons.

Yeah and I don't think minor charges such as weed possession are going end up with you being locked up... Slap on the wrist, and a small fine at best.

That already kind of happens here in America. Anyone caught with less than 28 grams gets a fine and sent on their way. It's the ones that push large amounts they get thrown in jail, but seeing as the fed would be taking over as pusher, I think it'd be pretty hypocritical to keep those guys in jail, especially since the government will have taken their job.

Because being stoned deprives you of mental ability, even if they are perfectly sane human beings before being stoned (though in truth no sane person takes drugs that have such detrimental effects and ignores science in favour of their own fucked up 'opinion' that they feel fine) weed fucks with the head, you can deny it all you want but at the end of the day weed is killing your brain and as long as you are stoned you're gonna be dim wittted. it's a depressant, it's what it does.
Ok, second round of Lol.
I especially liked the "ignores science in favour of their own fucked up 'opinion'" bit.
Weed is unique in that it exhibits Intoxicant, Stimulant, Psychedelic, And Depressant qualities. So please know before you speak.

If you could also exhibit some of that science you mentioned, you might note that "depressant" is qualification of it's effects and does not mean it kills braincells, "depressant" does not even have to do with neural function necessarily.

I noticed, and I use this post as example; the arguments against weed have made not an attempt at touching the reality of the situation. Instead we see something of a smear campaign, all sorts of adjectives to demonize. No source material.

Essentially what I'm getting at is that everyone anti-drug is Hitler.
Replace drug-user, stoner, etc with "jew"
drugs with "circumcission"
you get the idea

let me warp a comment for poignancy

and we have a hate speech in the making...

All this demonization, trying to make drug users out as subhuman. It's fucking disgusting.
When we need clean needle exchanges, you would throw people in jail.
Where legalization would fuck over organized crime, you'd have them crack down and in doing so would make the drug trade more lucrative.

It's lots of money for drugs because they are so hard to get, economics.

If you take one thing from this thread, it's that people are people. Drug users, gamers, whatever, fact is that 98% of them suck. I've met at least as many assholes and fuckups who are straight edge as I have drug users, probably more. And it's nice to know that the number is holding up in comparison of articulate to emotional appeals being made in this thread.

This is something I've been wondering for a while now. In movies, TV shows, literature and even just the common image that comes to mind on this subject always seems to show stoners (or anyone who uses any drug of any kind) as being incredibly stupid and weak minded.

But why is this?

For me, it's the exact opposite. All the stoners I know are actually extremely intelligent and often times are brilliant in their own ways. So why is it that the general public and the media depict weed smokers as unintelligent and borderline retarded?

Is it because the media wishes to give drugs as much shit as possible, so in turn they show the users as stupid because of their drug use rather than just being stupid in the first place? Or is it actually true that most of them are just stupid and I am lucky to know the few intellectual dopers?

What does the Escapist think about this and do you yourself do any drugs of the sort?
The depiction of stones as "stupid" is done that way because almost all stoners, when stoned on heavy drugs, or heavy ammounts of weed . . . ACT STUPID. There's a reason why the state of being "high" is also called a "stupor" because it makes you look, behave, and sound . . . STUPID.

Now granted, alot of them, when sober, are as normal as . . . well not me but then I'm verifiably psycho so I guess there's always an exception to the rule. Anyway, most stoners when sober are normal as anyone else you'd meet. There's a few people I work with that untill they start talking about the last shit they smoked you'd never know they were a stoner in the first place.

Well, in general since everyone and their dog spouts off about how drugs are bad in general it's considered a stupid thing to do. Trying it once in college doesn't mean anything but doing it constantly isn't really a great move from most people's perspective. I guess it's because the people portraying them that way don't know intelligent stoners and only know of the likely more common stupid variant.

I am actually a miss, but that's okay.

But thank you.
I am glad you agree with me on what seems like a touchy subject for other people here.

When they aren't stoned, most of them are pretty bright.
But... when they are stoned, they're dumb as hell and super slow.
Nice troll thread, by the way... if that's what it is. Pretty sure it is.

Haha I just saw this! Exactly right.

"I know this is illegal, and that if I get caught I'll get in trouble with the law, get fined and possibly a criminal record (which will affect the rest of my life) but I'm going to do it anyway! Wooooo! Smartest decision of my life!!"

Yeahh...Most of the stoners I know aren't exactly on the intelligent side...funny part is that the closest person to being smart isn't exactly a pothead.instead he takes..something. Nobody I know has figured out what the hell he's on.

Hmm you read my post did you? The part at the beginning where I say I just made this account to deal with your ignorance? So I ignored the bulk of your comment, maybe you should reread, the bulk of your comment was useless. You raised no legitimate issues, I addressed only what was there of substance.

You said "But this is just one of many effects of the drug. Just because it has ONE redeeming quality does not make it fine." Ok let me expand on this.

"In a 2002 review of medical literature, medical cannabis was shown to have established effects in the treatment of nausea, vomiting, premenstrual syndrome, unintentional weight loss, helps fight insomnia and lack of appetite. Other "relatively well-confirmed" effects were in the treatment of "spasticity, painful conditions, especially neurogenic pain, movement disorders, asthma, [and] glaucoma".[7]

Preliminary findings indicate that cannabis-based drugs could prove useful in treating inflammatory bowel disease (consisting of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis),[8] migraines, fibromyalgia, and related conditions.[9]

Medical cannabis has also been found to relieve certain symptoms of multiple sclerosis[10] and spinal cord injuries[11][12][13] by exhibiting antispasmodic and muscle-relaxant properties as well as stimulating appetite. Clinical trials provide evidence that THC reduces motor and vocal tics of Tourette syndrome and related behavioral problems such as obsessive?compulsive disorders.[14][15]

Other studies have shown cannabis or cannabinoids may be useful in treating alcohol abuse,[16] attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or AD/HD)[17][18] amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,[19][20][21] collagen-induced arthritis,[22] rheumatoid arthritis,[23] asthma,[24] atherosclerosis,[25] bipolar disorder,[26][27] childhood mental disorders,[28] colorectal cancer,[29] depression,[30][31][32][33] diabetic retinopathy,[34][35] dystonia,[36][37] epilepsy,[38][39] digestive diseases,[40][41] gliomas,[42][43] hepatitis C,[44][45] Huntington's disease,[46] hypertension,[47][48] urinary incontinence,[49] leukemia,[50] skin tumors,[51] morning sickness,[52][53] methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA),[54][55] Parkinson's disease,[56] pruritus,[57][58] posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD),[59][60][61] sickle-cell disease,[62] sleep apnea,[63]tourette syndrome,[64][65] and anorexia nervosa.[66]"

Hmm I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an UNredeeming quality of weed...

The main objection of the FDA to it's usage is "the smoking of organic materials" is bad, does this not seem hypocritical considering they exempt cigarettes from drug status?

The only substantiated negative influence of marijuana, "smoking is bad for your lungs"
Weed doesn't even give you cancer. It in fact shrinks tumor growth.

I like how you accused me of ignoring the bulk of your argument when you have done exactly that to me.

And also "no doubt if they freed drug users, someone else would fill the cell?" what kind of weird ass twisted logic is that...

So, let me get this straight;

You decided that instead of watching your friend do silly things stoned, you went to their PARENTS and drank with them?
I bet THAT was a killer time.
I'd much rather do stupid things with my friends and know that my friend would stick with me while I was stoned and stupid instead of drink with mine or someone else's parents.
