Why Are There NO Kids In Sandbox Shooter Games?

Well, it would be boring, for one thing.

I shot a kid in Fallout 2 and it was nothing special, aside from a comical hit message when I accidently shot the kid in the nuts.

I mean, there's no reason to actually kill kids in most games.
Except Fallout 3, those little shits in Lamplight...

It would involve making a new character frame for it which is difficult to do, but also Places like Australia and Germany don't allow violence against children in video games so it's just easier to leave them out.

Actually in Saints Row 2 you can make your character look like they're 16.
More on topic: Well the last time I checked killing kids was socially unacceptable, and just shy of totally fucked up.

I think that's a good enough reason.
Not that I disagree with 'killing children is bad' but since when is killing anything else 'socially acceptable'?

The moment you introduce children into a game people will try to kill them, me included, and not because I have an innate desire to harm children, but simply 'cause I can'.

Well this is kinda off topic but when GTA San Andreas came out it brought the crime rate down by like 20%. So whats to say if you put kids in games?
That is the biggest load of shit I've ever heard. Most people don't do crimes for catharsis, they do it for money, revenge or other reasons. A video game wouldn't lower the crime rate by 0.2%

Also, if you can't figure out why developers don't give you the ability to graphically murder children (the graphics are what make the major difference), then you have some major problems.

Ahh, the fond memories I have of hitting kids in the groin with sledgehammers in Fallout 2.

There aren't any kids for 2 reasons
1. They would have to make new character model
2. In sandbox games you can kill and destroy who or whatever you like, except for children, that would be evil.
Except in Bioshock, they found a way to make killing/harvesting kids less evil and not as offensive.

Kids, sure why not? You know what really gets me though? There isn't enough opportunities to take out mimes.

I tried everything to off those punks in lamplight! I even showered them with nukes. Shot the mayor right in the face the second he called me mungo. A nuke to the face should have done it, man.

It' because the ability to kill babies is a little controversial.
One thing remember the Black and White games? Am I the ONLY ONE who realised that you could kill children? I mean you could take a handful of babies throw them into the sea and electrocute them! And this game was considered a twelve or something. Weird, and horrible.

Mostly it is because we have been taught in society that killing children is wrong and that it makes you look like a monster.

Games that have you kill children would get so much bad publicity and there would be even more complaining from Jack Thompson and Michael Atkinson on how they think gamers are evil. The worst thing about it though is that more people might side with them if they found out there was a game you could actually kill kids without having to use mods.

You answered your own question.

It's very politically incorrect; as such, not even Rockstar and Bethesda would touch it. Very bad politics, even if it's not actually bad business.
Right there. That's the problem with the world. Political correctness. I already have to deal with when people get offened when I say Merry Christmas, I don't want to have it come into my hobbies

Ive played a lot of sandbox games like all the GTA series and Saints Row 1 & 2 and others.

But I noticed that there are no kids or teenagers in any of the the sandbox shooters.

Well except Fallout 3 but you cant kill or hut the kids. I wonder why, maybe because killing kids or hurting them is morbid.

So What is you opinion?
in fallout 2, you can hurt kids in the european version. In the american verison kids got turned into hobos.

Games already get enough bad rep. Do you really want Atkinson to have more ammo?
Well why not, games have touched everything else why stop now
Not a good idea DELTA. We don't need good ol' Jack or Atkinson to speak in public about how videogames are bum-f***ing america's youth or whatever.

So...the several members on the Escapist like to shut the tikes up ?permanent? like. Who knew? I guess people have a general hatred against kid. Anyway, back to the topic. The reason why kids don?t pop up in sandbox games is because obviously the player, being the unlikable bastard that he is in his games, would shoot them. The media will view this as fucked up, and if you truly discuss this, several people will agree with this. I for one don?t like the idea of killing kids, real life or virtual. Its just fucked up, okay?
