Why are there so few coop Hack&Slash?

I tried playing some co-op Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and the lag was pretty ridiculous. I think games like NG and Bayonetta are just too fast for all but the fastest broadband connections when it comes to online co-op. Also, as someone above has pointed out, the camera angles would be a huge pain with this type of game.

against the argument htat splitscreen(the only way to make it truly functional) takes too much power... Just downgrade the grapics. Fuck, make it cel-shaded so you can hide your shittiness behind the colors. I would freakin' buy it up in a second.

I'd quite like co-op campaigns in more of these. They could add extra stuff, like co-op takedowns and stuff.

Well, Dante's Inferno's getting co-op in it's second batch of DLC, if that's anything.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 does use Co-op in challenge mode, but the implimentation was admittedly an after thought. It was never meant to be a two player game, and thus the combat does not translate well. Knocking an enemy out of your ally's combo, no splitscreen support (which wouldn't have worked anyway), and further cluttering the already saturated screen are just a few problems.
If an action fighting game is going to be co-op, it needs to be designed from the beginning with it in mind.

To be honest, I hear "co-op" hack'n'slash and I think Dynasty/Samurai Warriors.

I also associate beat'em'ups with something entirely different. Wouldn't mind another one (God Hand was awesomeness incarnate, but single-player).

I've been trying to find my copy of Champions of Norrath lately. No luck so far. I want to play it so bad. ;_;

It's probably already been said, but one of the biggest factors is probably camera issues.

Games like this where co-op works well; Streets of Rage, Castle Crashers, Golden Axe etc, have a single fixed camera view and are '2.5D'.

To make it work well in a fully 3D game would probably require a lot of effort, building the game for this sort of play, a simple tacked-on co op mode on something like bayonetta probably wouldnt work very well because the game was designed around single player.
It would almost definately need to be split screen too because having multiple players on a 3D screen being tracked by 1 camera would just end up as a mess!

Fable 2 did it OK camera wise. What threw it down the shitter was you can't use your hero, OR your money in someone else's game. I enjoy my games being Splitscreen even if it means having my screen halved. This is why I love Halo; I have 3 friends over, we don't have to stick to just playing against the 4 of us match after match after match, NO we can go ONLINE with ALL of us. I have yet to see another game let people do this (If I'm wrong, please tell me, I have friends over all the time and we could use something new).

TBH I don't really care how many ONLINE multiplayer is capable of having per match. I want to be able to bring at least 1 friend with me to it so we don't have to just take turns and BOTH have fun at the same time.

This is one of the many reasons Halo wins over COD! Not enough games these days have decent enough multiplayer for when you're actually on the same console and not just online.

Because, in H&S games, the character on his own is already all over the place. You don't need to add another all over the place character. It just wouldn't be all that good looking.

The games look fast, but the input requirements aren't particularly greater than most other online games.

This. Putting together a system to avoid the players treading on each other's toes constantly would be challenging, to say the least.
