I'm sure most of us here at the Escapist, even if we know the guy is an obvious troll saying "Halo's the best lol", we still feel the urge to reply to him saying that his statement is wrong and that he is a shameless troll. a considerably lower number of us may even feel anger from reading this troll thread. I myself can't explain why we feel we have to reply to these troll threads, even if I do so myself, so I wanted to ask what makes you reply to a troll thread?

It's the cruel temptation and hope that maybe, just maybe, we can prove the troll wrong and get him to shut up. Even though we know better :(.

Because, deep down, we all want to prove ourselves smarter than another human being by pointing out that they are wrong and you are right.

For the same reason we watch Motor sports to watch the crashes. For the same reason we watch X Factor to see the terrible auditionees. For the same reason we watch Deal or No Deal for the moment when the person gambles it all, and loses.

I fail to understand how someone saying "Halo is the best lol" is obviously trolling.

What if the question was: "Which game do you think is the best?"

Well, there's something about stupid, staged or not, that makes us who think we know better, want to reply.

I usually don't post in troll threads, but I do love to read all the post.

Seeing everyone try to prove the troll wrong, and the troll is too busy defending himself by insulting everyone who don't agree with him.

Its better than daytime TV shows.

I meant it as in someone makes a thread just to say "Halo's the best"

Well, I hardly think saying "Halo's the best" is trolling. It's just stating your opinion. Trolling is when you slag off other peoples opinions and interests in the hope of inciting retaliation. truly, whoever responds to "Halo's the best" with a derogatory statement is the true troll.

I don't really know - it's just a "calling". Everything in my mind screams "it's a troll, don't reply, it's pointless", but I still do anyway most of the time. It's like an itchy trigger finger...

Sometimes it's also best to just let your rage out if it makes you feel better, unless of course it ends in a ban.

I am gifted with enough common sense to actually obey the "report and move on" saying.
While some of the threads are funny to watch, I would much rather see a troll thread be locked without a single additional comment.
It would do my soul good.
Don't you want to please my soul?
Pwetty pwease?
*puppy dog eyes*

...okay, I'm putting these things down now.

Surely "Halo is shit" would be a more obvious form of trolling...

OT:- well actually its been said, Just because we want to try and do the impossible and prove them wrong... Even though they are usually long gone.
