That is the question isn't?

Why are we here?

What is our purpose in life?

Is there something that we all should strive for other than hoarding cookies?

I've said this several times on this site, I might make a thread dedicated to observational skills.

The question to the answer 42 is
[HEADING=1]"THINK OF A NUMBER ANY NUMBER?"[/HEADING]

Its repeated several times in the books but no one seems to take notice.
Marvin the paranoid Android tells the group on the rockstars starship and he tells Zem the talking matress on the planet Squornshellus Zeta.

When Chuck Norris round house kicked the Universe into being he knew there had to be a world where his Followers wouldn't die in the Cold vaccuum of space?.

i believe that i can answer the first question with "Just because" and the second question with a "To Get Physical, Physical"

The third is blatantly obvious, Nothing is more important than Cookies.

That robot is a liar! He does not know the answer! He just made it up so he can cop out of actual work.

Must we keep asking that question?

We are here. Why does not matter. What does matter is for how long we will last and what we will do until our inevitable end.

Yeah.
That only explains the 'how' which is something else than the 'why'. People are rather keen on finding that why, even though there is no natural law that states that there has to be an answer to that in the first place.

There you have it folks, the very first post answers the ultimate question!
*Takes a bow*

Thank you, thank you. I would just like to say that I know I'm awesome and you all can suck it! In all seriousness though, you can't take this subject to seriously. It will eat you alive.

Someone else also says it with conviction, but I can't remember who, i've only read the books twice, once to read it and a second time to confirm my findings on the question.

Praise my giant brain, and it wouldn't hurt if you guys called me devilishly handsome as well.

I don't really have a purpose in life. People ask me how I can't have one, and the answer is quite simple. I just don't. I was an ambitionless child.

We're here for the purpose of existence - I just make the most of it.
There doesn't have to be a reason for it, nor does there need to be any real purpose.

Ok, this is really random, but your avatar characters are bobbing in exact timing to the song I'm listening to right now.

Its rather weird :p

OT: There is no meaning to life. Thats why its so awesome to live, its like a sandbox game - we are free to do whatever the bloody hell we want, it is only petty human law that prevents us from doing so.

You are the timelord and don't know why you are here?! Because your time machine broke, you bumped inyto this epoch and are stuck here forever, repair it and move along.

Now honestly, these existential subjects were questioned more times then anything else and never answered. Before answering "why" he should start with "how", and so far nobody gave prove of the answer either. Creation or Evolution both require huge amounts of faith. Yes Half of the world believes in a divinbe creating process but so far all failed to prove the existence of such entity. Evolution has tonnes of evidence of how long life have been around but fails to come up with transictional species and even if its right evolutionists are falacious, they are just trying to answer how Man showed up but not how life showed up. More important then that at a point it comes also to the dead end of spontaneous generation.

So we can´t really answer why yet.

Why you are is your parents, try and inquire their reasoning if you'd like but it doesn't much matter. As for finding purpose in life, that's for each individual to decide, mines to change the world which may seem a bit optimistic.
