I'm born into it. It's in my genes. My whole family are nerds.
I love being a nerd, we're awesome.

Mostly the skillset I cover and my obsession with it.

When you know how to model, sprite, make graphics, make Midi's from scratch, remix songs and change voice patterns, and know a little about coding and physics engines, and talk abnout them every chance you get, that sort of gives people that Nerdy feeling.

I'm a reticent, socially awkward, misanthrope, who obssesses with personal hobbies/interests and ardently argues against adversaries over what must seem to outsiders to be totally inconsequential semantics.

I like things that tend to be associated with nerdom?

Also, this site hasn't helped me not be a nerd. But I still love it.

I'm more of a geek, I guess. Plus, being "cool" or "normal" is fucking boring.

Oh, and I'm socially awkward.

My maternal grandfather was an engineer (with an interest in Chemistry and History), and he served in the royal engineers for years. Anyway, it was through him that I fostered a love for sciences and that love made me go for a degree in Biochemistry and Biological chemistry. I love knowledge, I love reading and I love looking things up. My grandfather saw this and he started to teach me Chemistry. In doing this, he introduced me to something wondrous and exciting. Sadly, he died when I was 9, but even though he has been dead longer than I knew him, his influence and guidance in those formative years will stay with me forever.

I think my brother got me into it when he bought the megadrive into our house, and from there I blossomed into the nerd I am. I did hold the social awkwardness card for most of secondary school, but from about 17 years of age onwards I've just become social, sexy, and super awesome without losing touch with my nerd, it's great!
Actually come to think of it all my influences came from him, I started playing Magic because of him, he got me into tabletop RPGs, and he even got me to try a LARP for a while, crazy.

I'm a nerd because I was good at maths and science at school, because of that I was bullied badly enough for me to still carry the mental scars and baggage to this very day.

I'm not just a nerd because I game I'm a nerd because of how my brain is wired

I've actually played hockey for 12 years, on pretty high-profile teams (see: Travelling across the US) and yet I classify myself as a nerd at basically every other moment that I'm not participating in/watching sports. And lo, I am a nerd-jock hybrid.

Anyway, for me I think it's because I've always excelled in school, and I've been prolific in math. Factor that into me being tall (and therefore not necessarily the most coordinated person when I was younger) and you start to see where the line was drawn among the other jocks. In turn, this division allowed me to develop my nerd/geek side, though I've noticed stark lack of sports-playing nerds, which kept me tied to the jock side (always a nerd at heart though).

And now that I think about it, my entire extended family shows a huge lacking of nerds/geeks, and certainly none within 40 years of my age. An odd phenomenon.

I think there are two definitions of the word nerd. Just the normal bald guy in glasses who plays magic cards, videogames, watches movies. I have nothing on me that shows I do any of this. My friends are all nerds a as well and they fit into the same category. Have worked with doushbag nerds before. After working with this guy named Kyle, well lets just say he takes the bad nerd cake. Literally argue about anything he was interested in and thought the X-box was a gift from god. Pretty bad in my opinion. Even though I don't like to judge people on how they look, his personality made me see the whole picture.

How kyle looked.

Buck Teeth(Refuses to get them fixed)
Tons of keys on his belt(Listening to that jingle as he walked made me so angry)
Ponytail(Cut it off, it looks god awful on a guy)
Horrible Beard(He had a growth on his chin, food used to get caught in it)

Don't be like this kids.

It just so happens that a lot of the things that I like fall under the "nerd" category. I like plenty of non-nerdy things too, but it seems that they are usually overpowered.

I blame my dad. Playing Age of Empire on the pc in my room when I'm about to go to bed and while I'm sleeping when I was about 10. Kind of stuck though and I still occasionally play AoE 2(don't get me started on 3.)

I'm a nerd because I do what I like when I could be doing something else.

Started around the age of five when my brother (Eleven at the time) played Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Later on it was a way to stay out of trouble since all I heard aside from the games' soundtracks were my mom arguing with my sisters. Now its because there's nothing to do outside and nothing to watch on TV.

I guess its the way my parent raise me in a way, social wise. Granted I've been to other friend birthday parties as a kid etc but they didn'tlike friends coming over to my house too often. They also didn't like me going out hanging with them after school which to be honest by that time I can' be arse doing that (I mean I used to be a couch potatoes so by hanging out with them I will mis my shows) which brought alot of conflict betweeen me and my mates from high school.
I with me being indoor most of the time I stated to like watching tv and show interest with comicbook etc.

Partly because I possess above average intellect, and happen to like a medium that was designed specifically for enjoyment.

Mostly because I took one look at popular society and thought 'No.'

I'm not the nerdiest of nerds by a long shot, but I am introverted with (or preferably without) strangers and random as a bat on my face with my friends.

Quoted because of truth. Fuck normal.
The day any of my friends can confidently and correctly tell me my sexuality is the day I fail at life. Like I said: Random. As bats. Bats on my face.

I lead a double life really.

I love sports, particularly football, avid follower of everything that goes on in the Premier League and religiously watch Match of the Day. Play a lot of sports too, football, cricket, tennis, squash, rugby. Even go out binge drinking occasionally.....

But, I always come home to my stack of games, my star wars/star trek box sets, all my anime and their many, many anime models.

I like to mix the two to get a good balance, that way I dont fall too far into the tight white tshirt wearing "frat boy" mentality, or fall into the social recluse with the severe vitamin D deficiency.

I don't have a reason.
Since when does interest in something require an event or choice to happen?
Also, I'm pretty sure nerd applies to anyone with a fixation of any specific thing.
