It's stimulation for the baby.
I can't believe you didn't think of that.
You beat me to it. It helps their minds grow.
Yep. I took my daughter to the zoo a lot. Over the years she has studied animals more and more. Now she is quit the animal science geek and wants to be a zoologist or some such like that.

Same with bringing anyone under 14-16 to a really expensive vacation. What the hell do they need it for? They will just forget the whole thing anyway.
Normally, I'd get a bit mad at an age related dig. However, I have to agree.

I'm 15, and my recent holidays... I just didn't appreciate them.

And as you say: "They will just forget the whole thing anyway"... I do. I really do.
And it saddens me that I don't actually enjoy the holiday, considering my parents have paid good money to take me there.

Therefore, I'm staying out of the next holiday. For their sake.
Yep, and I'm speaking from personal experience. When I was 10 my parents took me to Europe to see family for a month. Whole thing was such a waste, even though I had fun. If I went now at 18 it would mean so much more. And I'm sure it would even be better at 25 or so.

You go to a zoo to observe various exotic and in some instances rare animals. Now why is it many people bring their babies?

I know some people bring them because they probably can't dump them on someone else but everytime I've ever been to ANY zoo, there's waaaay to many people to make me think that's the case.

The problem with bringing babies is they're to young to understand or appreciate most things in life, let a lone animals and all they do is scream, cry or whatever and thus care away the animals, with some very rare examples I barely get to see as a result such as tigers and of course if the young animals get scared and hide, the adults will follow them, naturally.

So all we get is a loud sounding zoo full of near-bare enclosures.
You're right! By scotts! We should leave all the children at home because someone may not tolerate a bit of noise. Screw them if they really wanted to see those lions or learn something, they may moan because they also wanted to have a day and have that icecream too. /Sarcasm

Really? Children don't have a grasp of how to argue yet so the only form of communication is to cry and throw tantrums. The parents should teach the child to stop, but it seems that your's didn't.

I'm thinking in case one of the animals gets out of their cage and goes on a rampage, you'd need something to distract it.

And yes I am that evil >D

So you guys are saying when (and if) you become parents, you'll just pay a baby sitter and go and do fun stuff all on your own?
Thats not really my definition of a happy family.

How the heck can a baby want to learn about lions? They don't even know how to perform basic human functions.

And what do you mean by that last remark? Seem's a bit over the top.

It's simple, you can't teach a baby to be quiet thus the point of this thread that they will make noise no matter where they go or what they're doing and we've already gone through why thats bad. By all means do take your baby out but in some instances I don't see the point.

Some people seem to think I'm advocating keeping babies in 24/7 and should be ditched, no, not at all! This is about them at zoos! Further more a lot of other responses about their children or their experience seem to imply that they're actually toddlers... they can understand! I'm talking about babies exclusively, if you had fond memories at the zoo very young, you were beyond being a baby clearly!

I can tell your pushing for a probation/suspension/ban, amrite?
Not really. I'm just honestly getting sick of people acting like fools here. Seriously, he's complaining about children at a zoo. I'd really rather know that someone was writing a thread about what happens behind the scenes of a zoo, good or bad.

What is so foolish about having the personal opinion that babies screaming at a zoo ruins the experience?

Just zoos? I feel this was complaining for no real reason. Babies cry. They do this. So they should not go to zoos? I still don't get it.

I've already given reasons. They're loud and can't appreciate, understand or even take notice what is on display and results in the animals in the enclosures to hide/become distressed. I know the animals can become like this either way but in my experience and other people I know, they've caused the animal to leave when it was just getting close, the second the baby started crying.

I do think people should take their babies out in general, but some instances don't make sense.
