Complete opposite, actually. I've been gaming for 26 years or so, and very few games can really satisfy me for long. World of Warcraft lasted me 4 weeks: I was trying to be open-minded.Joeshie said:You must have some pretty damn low standards for games.
I'm a bit of a desperate fellow feebly seeking enjoyment in an industry which rarely delivers because they're developing for a far more lucrative market of people who have not been playing games for 26 years.
Considering this, your comment bites like a thousand suns. Thanks heaps.
Well, the way I see it, even if 99% of all free games (MMOs included) are complete an utter trash, there's so many many of them out there that this 1% would still beat the number of good retail games by a ratio of 3 to 1.Probably 99% of all free games, MMOs included, are complete and utter trash. You get the occasional gem like Dwarf Fortress or a good tower defense game, but that's about all it amounts too. You won't ever find games like Fallout 3 or Fable 2 that are completely free.
That's one aspect of my argument. Another aspect of my argument is that pretty graphics and high-end production values do not a good game make. There are 2-bit games that are still deliver fun as solidly as giant 32-bit masterpieces today. True gameplay is deeper than skin-deep.
That being the case, with the sheer prevalence of free games offered these days - why buy games?
You mentioned Fallout 3 and Fable 2 - I don't even need to buy them, I can rent for $15/mo until I'm sick of them and send them back. Why not - I keep my save game files if I ever have the urge to play them again... and how often does that happen for a game you're bored of anyway?
