Why can't we use a keyboard/mouse on consoles?

Because the defining feature of a console is the controller. If it was a keyboard and mouse, it wouldn't be a console, it'd just be a really bad computer. The reason why you can use a controller on a PC is because there are some games that you NEED A CONTROLLER FOR. Psychonauts for example is impossible to play on K+M, but is a synch to play on a controller.

Personally, I prefer controllers. (Some of them that is)

I grew up on them. I mean, keyboard/mouse is obviously better but it doesn't give me the same feeling

Still, I would buy the attachment if their was one

I think it has something to do with giving an unfair advantage online

Umm cause its a console and not a computer? And console games are designed for controllers? And manufactures want you to buy more controllers?

I thought you could with xbox with a USB keyboard, never tried it. If not then I assume its because thats the developers responsibility to program those controls, whats the point if its not a pc version?

If I could use my PS3 as a computer, and still be able to play games the way I like to, I wouldn't even bother owning a PC anymore..
My question is always why anyone bothers using a console in the first place. Its just a retarded computer.

Of course, "build a system so simple that even a fool can use, and only a fool will use it."
The different games, the convenience, the price, the ability to play on your 60 inch flat screen TV as opposed to your 20 inch computer monitor, and some people (like me) greatly prefer the controller to the mouse and keyboard.
Sheesh, where to begin?

Well, most games now release on the PC as well as the others, not to mention entire genera that do not port to consoles. PC games tend to be less expensive than console games, steam is awfully convenient, a perfectly acceptable machine can be built for the launch price of a PS3. My plasma inputs directly from my video card (and looks fantastic), and I can get USB controllers. Also, if you can afford a 60 inch flat screen TV, you can probably afford to splurge a bit on a CPU tower. Just sayin'. If you can't, you probably should have bought your baby new shoes instead of that TV.

The other poster who mentioned standard format as the best reason for consoles is the best view among the 5+ spiteful posts that have quoted mine; but it seems hollow when there are five competing formats versus a catch all PC format.

Anyway, the purpose of my post was;

The OP wanted PC inputs on his console. I argue that its silly to convert a console to a pathetic PC. Just use a PC. And this is likely the reason why mouse\keyboard peripherals are the exception, rather than the rule.

I like to think we purchase consoles with the expection of using a nifty controller. Otherwise, we'd be playing games on PCs.

The reason you can't use a mouse and keyboard on console games is because of a couple reasons.

A) The console needs to be able to support your mouse and keyboard
B) The game needs to support a control set for the mouse and keyboard

Both of these reasons are 100% valid.

because those controls are too complicated for the console tards
Please don't use words like 'consoletard'.

It makes you appear elitist and gives PC gamers a bad name.

There's already enough idiotic flaming between PC guys and console guys going on, we don't need more fuel on the fire.

using mouse and keyboard ruins games for casual gamers because it lets players bee too good at certain games altho it would be wise to allow it for rts

I'm pretty sure Microsoft makes keyboard and mouse accessories for the 360, but I don't know how or if those attachments are implemented in games. I would think at least some games can be controlled with them.
