Well, I could actually I kinda agree with you, but what's about the bunnies? They are not cute nor nothing special, I only like them because I eat them (yes, you read that right, I actually breed them for eating).

Some people hate cats; that's something I'll never get. For the rest of us, however, cats are awesome. Adorable, cuddly, fun to play with, HIGHLY affectionate, and healthy for their owners; it's a proven fact that owning a cat, or just holding and petting a cat will reduce blood pressure. In ancient Egypt, cats were considered a symbol of grace and poise, something that can be seen in their casualness in almost all their actions. Even when they do something really stupid, they just walk it off as though they're simply incapable of doing anything that is less than graceful.

Women are.... hot. Sometimes a little bothersome, but all-around awesome.

Put the best of the two together, and we have a creature which is, whether we realize it or if it's simply subconscious, unbelievably desirable. Think about it: Few woman are quite so affectionate or cuddly as a catgirl, AND you can have a relationship with your catgirl that is easily comparable with a woman.... just with more "petting" and such.
Oh, and the "sounds" a catgirl can make during "fun" times. I'll leave that one to your imagination. I'm subtle!

The cat-girl thing is a little odd. Of, course, I'm wierd in that when I see one I don't immediately think about violating it. I actually find them kind of cute. Which seems appropriate considering that they are typically a mixture of a moe-girl (which, and I will stand by this point no matter what evidence you present to the contrary, is an archtype with a fetish for it, not just a straight up fetish) and a kitten. It would not work in real life though. It works with the stylization inherent in anime where the the style is overtly pronounced (Chrono Crusade and lucky Star, for example, are very strongly stylized), but in real people it would quickly be a torches and pitchforks scenario. A justified torches and pitchforks scenario.

There is no why to fetishes, they just are...
