I can understand that objection; I don't personally mind at all, but I get it. It's the notion of the "exotic" experience, the archetype that goes with certain genres. In a spaghetti western, you need at least one Mexican and/or "Indian". In a period piece, you need your English accents. In a mafia thing, you need your Italians.Bob_McMillan said:The Thing I Would Kinda Prefer Not to Talk About - So. This game has a mixed race character.
Sigh.
This is one of the bigger complaints I have seen. Not that the dude is black, but more of that he isn't Italian. The game is called Mafia, the series has always been a member of the Mafia, but in this game your job is to... overthrow the Mafia?
I thought it was a cool move to have a mission in Mafia 2 where you kill the protagonist of the earlier game, but isn't this taking it too far? There is no law that says that the game has to be similar to the last ones, but I am just saying that I can understand why a lot of Mafia fans are upset. They wanted a Godfather experience, instead you get the, uh, I dunno, whatever the organization you lead is (Is the "black mob" a thing? I never heard of them).
I ended up using a training half-way through the game to deal with the gunplay. I would suggest doing the same, if you manage to circumvent the archaic design, it's a very absorbing and rewarding experience.BaldursGateTemple said:I tried Mafia 1 a few years ago on the PC. The driving mechanics and the way the cars handled were so archaic that I couldn't even enjoy the game. To me, it hasn't aged well at all. There are tons and tons of old games that I enjoy playing, Baldurs Gate on the PC, Icewind Dale etc, but I honestly think that Mafia 1 is nigh unplayable just because of how realistic those old cars handled.
See, this is why you don't buy into hype. I imagine Doom and Quantum Break aren't going to be all that grand either.Zhukov said:Oh man, that's terrible.
Someone on a forum told me Mafia 3 was going to be one of the best games of the year.
