Perhaps in some cases, but it looks like Visceral Games did just fine in Dante's Inferno. Animation is the easy part because it just has to be believable. You just need a fluid swing and nice knock-back on the victim. Now, if you're trying to animate directly from video reference of someone trying to fight with a scythe? Yeah, that would look awkward, but that's why animators are allowed to take artistic liberties. Because total realism usually sucks.Fensfield said:Have you ever tried animating a scythe-wielder realistically?
I'm not saying it's impossible to use one as some here - anything can be a weapon, especially anything pointy and especially if you're strong. Efficiency is another question entirely, but scythes have been used in combat in history, albeit largely by those without other options. But high quality 3D plunges awkward weapons straight into immersion breaking territory without some bloody good animation work.
'Least that's what I think.

but scythes where not designed to be weapons, and honestly i like realism with my rpgs.. i mean id rather have a simple spear then any of those fancy ones above
Yeah, I was hoping nobody would realize that >_>
That being said, they were only used to hunt small animals, and they had practically no potential in war.
and honestly final fantasy is not the best i use this as a weapon excuse...
So I can't use the most successful RPG franchise as an example for other RPGs? Darn.
and honestly i like realism with my rpgs
So, you've never used a phoenix down, have you? Do you also take your turn stabbing people so they can take their turn stabbing you?
i mean id rather have a simple spear then any of those fancy ones above
You're quite the boring person, aren't you? That being said, normal weapons usually have better stats when you have the choice between the two.
Man, you're the stereotypical nerd who's a killjoy by correcting people about the historical accuracy of certain weapons in certain periods. Nothing stops nunchaks from being cool in Ninja Gaiden.Souplex said:By bumping this thread you revived it.Judgement101 said:Please just let this thread die. Then Death can take it because he can actually appreciate scythes.
Death doesn't fight, he harvests. There is a reason nunchucks weren't used on the battlefield, and that's because they're thoroughly useless.migo said:You mean like death is an idiot? And like how nunchaks are farming tools and only an idiot would use them?Souplex said:Because scythes aren't weapons. They're farming tools. Only an idiot would fight with a scythe.

The real question is why do RPGs neglect polearms and axes? Historically they were the most commonly used melee weapons. Swords were the equivalent of an officers pistol.
yeah ill say the game play was fun and good but the story, setting, (not the look just the feel), characters (all but 2), and voice acting suck. its that type of game that when you watch the cut scenes (much more with other people in the room) You get embarrassed, blush and leave the room while its playing.Einherion said:no i enjoyed the star ocean games. read reviews, im not saying they are all amazing! lolJudgement101 said:It was bad?YuriHellsing said:I think he would what to play games that don't suckGet Jiggy said:Play Star Ocean. So are pitchforks.Judgement101 said:I already said this isn't a valid argument. Pitchforks are weapons.Mercsenary said:Besides scythes are a farming tool.

Many weapons started as tools, Pitchforks for example.Mornelithe said:Scythe's are a tool for farming, not for fighting. Peasants used to use them for self-defense, but most military's never employed them as they're simply too cumbersome.
Actually, it's a Nambu, used by the Japanese in WWII. Real gun, real sword, really desperate.Asehujiko said:It lacks a trigger and the blade is attached to the bolt, which prevents the pistol from even chambering a round, let alone firing it. This a sword with a very pointless novelty grip that looks like a luger.SoldieroFortune said:I have a gunblade ...

How did you even find this damn thread?Gamble1221 said:OMG i just want an good rpg to contain scythes so i can roleplay as death. Besides scythes are BADASS!!!
Cuz ppl arent playing games for realism. If I can use H2H vs a giant lava monster and noone gives it a second glance, the I can fight with a comically over sized scythe for sex appeal, and GP.Jimmy T.
