Well, it's unweildy and cumbersome. Think about it, if you swung it like an axe, none of the blade would strike them, only the point (which could break, as it's cheap and not designed for it). It's also weighty and awkward to swing in an effective way. As far as I remember some militias had scythes with the blade rotated 90 degrees so it would be a bit like a glaive, but then I suppose it doesn't look like a scythe so it loses cool points.
Also, it's just stupid. It's cool in a way that a 13 year old goth kid might find cool. Seriously, the only reason you ever see scythes in games and things is because death is shown as having one (which is because he's supposed to 'harvest' souls), it's cheesy and obvious.
