Why do fanboys defend their favorite console or game company with such fervor?
Basic tribal instincts with the company being the leader. People will viciously defend the guy in charge, which they do.

Why do fanboys attack other people's consoles?
Human nature. People seem to be completely incapable of understanding that other people might see the world differently, or draw different conclusions from the same information.

Why do fanboys attack anyone who has a criticism of a game, company, or console without even considering the validity of the criticism?
See question one.

Why do fanboys protect the status quo against positive criticism, improvement, progress, and feedback?
Because progress is usually bad for the big companies.
Why do fanboys insulate their object of affection from any objective examination?
See previous question.
Why do fanboys act against their own self interest?
Stupidity.
Why do fanboys even exist?
Because fanatical loyalty is bred into us as a species.

Fanboys are often the ultimate suckers, they are at the front lines of console wars, they promote propaganda and make excuses for their favorite company, they defend companies against criticism that could improve the industry, and who benefits at the end? Whatever corporation they are representing as unpaid goons.
why do people make pointless threads like this that have been made many times before?

Because they refuse to believe that some people have different opinions and that the things they love have flaws?

Because they are people who have nothing else to do with their lives except for attack anyone who says anything negative to what they are obsessed with.

Usually.. Whatever negative thing the person said to get themselves bitched at, is actually a logical argument.

My question would be why do fanboys insist on labeling everyone else as a fanboy for disagreeing with them, while they display all common fanboyish behaviors?

I personally was a fanboy until i realized that if i really wanted to do something for the company i loved, i would buy everything good from the company, enjoy it, and not feel the need to defend it on forums.

I used to be a halo fanboy. I admitt that now, but i was like 8 and playd game cube on a regular basis. Now that i have had a more colorful experience of good games, and yahtzee's videos, i am probily as bad a critic as him, but you have no choice to but to say that wii sucks and ps3 could have been much better

You know, by fanboy I don't just mean fans, I mean the people who are not only fans but take it upon themselves to attack and flame and insult anyone who likes another product. People who defend their company and console almost like they're being paid to do so. People who defend their game/console from any kind of critical review, attacking anyone who doesn't pretend like everything about the game/console is entirely perfect. People who act like anyone who gives an 8.6 out of 10 in a game review is evil and stupid.

I have nothing against fans. I'm a huge fan of the Hitman series, I'm a huge fan of Black and White and Dungeon Keeper and Baldur's Gate 2 and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, but I could name you glaring flaws in all of those games. Everyone's a fan of something, fanboys just take it a bit too far and end up serving corporations instead of themselves and the gaming community.

IMO the gamming community needs the demand more accountability and provide more constructive feedback for the industry.

My opinion is that fanboys are massive idiots but that is just my opinion.

I do love how when we question why fanboys are idiots they don't get all mad and tell us they aren't. They just stay way from the topic. Perhaps it is because they know they are foolish.
