Okay, so I just installed a mod and now I get a black screen. This happened after I deleted the META_IHF folder, an instruction for every mod I have seen. Can anyone help with this?

What mod did you install and do you have any other mods installed? A list of what you have would be most helpful, along with the version of minecraft you're running.

I have the Cube Inc., LB Photo realism, and Half-Life texture packs, along with the standard mod loader mods (Better water, HD capabilties, grass grows down blocks). I am currently running 1.8.1. I put back the META_IHF folder, and still nothing. The mod I tried was Grieffer Creeper, the one with the creepers that launch exploding arrows.

Go to the Minecraft folder, pull out your saved games. Delete the whole damn folder, open and re-download the files automatically, and replace your saves. Make sure you have the newest mod loader. Replace the stuff you know works and test it. Load the new mod and test it. If it breaks, go back to step 1. Fiddle with the order of the installed mods to try to see where the compatibility issues lie. Keep doing this as long as you can stand it. If you can't get it all working, wait for an update to the mods, patcher, or game itself.

It may be the dumb way, but its the safest, most straightforward way that doesn't lead to you breaking something for every thing you fix.

Most blackscreens are caused by Java. Have you upgraded to 64-bit Java (if you have a 64-bit OS)? If that's not it, then it may be an issue with the mod.

Is OSX 10.6.7 64 bit?

Are you certain that the Griefer Creeper mod is compatible with 1.8.1? The highest version of it I can find with a google search is compatible with minecraft 1.7. Is it possible to provide a link to where you downloaded the mod from?

Though, like was stated before your best method of trouble shooting is to reinstall the game (backing up your saves beforehand) and then having a backup copy of your minecraft.jar file go through your mods one by one and see if they all load up properly. Start with your most recent though because if your game was working before then, odds are that's the one with the compatibility problems.

In the mod loader, it gave me a link to it. He is the one I use, I think it is updated, cause it works.
