why do I have to register for everything?

I am talking about forums (of corse).
First of all i want to say I am happy I signed up for this site, as it's very well done, and gives people fun little goodies for contributing, it's one of the very few places where I have registered in order to contribute my opinions.
That is mostly because i have a good number of them.
what annoys me though, is when you are searching through the net and find a fun little thread somewhere, and someone has made a comment that i just want to build on (DESTROY!).
So I click on the Quote/comment/reply button, only to find to my horror that most terribly familiar of sights.

THE LOGIN BOX! (without guest/anonymous post)
Now keep in mind that 97% of the time, these are sites I (nor most people) have not seen of heard of before, and probably never will. At this point most people just want to make ONE comment, not sign up for plastic surgery. Why then do they need all my personal info right of the bat?
Restricting spam is not an excuse for most of these sites as they barely have any comments anyway. If i registered for these sites every time i had an urge to comment, my usernames/passwords (they SAY you shouldn't use the same one twice) would have to be professionally archived.
I am not saying that guest/anonymous posting should be put everywhere on the internet,as requiring registration is perfectly reasonable for large, established sites like the Escapist.
If you think people will just never register, add a limit on guest comments, sure it could be bypassed, but who would go to the trouble? it would be like megavideo but without needing money.

I am sure the internet is full of poor comments on forums that have gone undebated and unmocked, it just leaves me sleepless.
So my question is, WHY INTERNET!? WHY!?

Edit: But really, are there any good reasons for this?

It is to keep spam under control though. Even if the site only has few regulars, the person who created it doesn't want it to become an even worse place to be.

It also makes sure that if you make your comment, that it can be replied to if need be.

To stop the place ending up like /b/ i guess.

I know what you mean the annoyance of wanting to say something but having to go through making an account first.

What then, is the difference between an idiot who can't be bothered to register, and a valuable contributor who can't be bothered to register, or the exact oppisites?

There are hundreds if not thousands of these half baked sites. Most of which are probably selling my email to viagra advertisment companys.

The majority of people on the internet tend to lean towards the "idiot" side of the spectrum. You keep those people out by putting registration on your site. Sure, you may lose the occasional valuable contributor, but that's typically a small price to pay.

If they are truly a valuable contributor, and really want their opinion to be heard, they'll register anyway.

But there's so many goddamn sites (groan).

perhaps then, they need some sort of universal forums record, that gives you a score based on the number and feedback towards your comments throughout many (if not all) internet forums. depending on your score and the sites particular standards, forums could let you post a certain number of guest comments before having to register. Moderator wrath, would be a big no-no of coarse, sorta like a credit history.

I guess you could call it a thread-sume.

It'd be cool if you had a post limit until you had to register, even if it was just one post. Besides, if you needed more than one you'd probably register by then.

Another option would be having a fixed internet account attached to a fixed IP that the site could recognize after your given permission and password...

Hold on, i'm gonna write this down.

The information to your account could be downloaded from your computer by the site your trying to register in... or a fixed site just for this purpose.....

Huh? Sorry? Did you say something? OH CRAP! What's the alt-code for the copyright icon?

EDIT:
Found it!

And there is the answer. Advertising, which will give whatever site you have gone to money. There is the spam thing too, but most people who aren't moderators couldn't care less about that.

haha no.
This is Soul Eater Evans from the anime Soul Eater.

Ichigo is the guy with the carrot hair. Google Ichigo Kurosaki.

I DID watch bleach you know. Right up until they stopped giving Ichigo crazy ups, they even seemed to make him weaker somehow. before that it was like DBZ but less lame and with swords!
But there was the point where i was like "wait what were we doing in the big hollow palace?" and "what the heck does this have to do with anything!?" nuff said.

Soooo, back OT!

Google a website called Jokaroo. Go to the games section. Click on any game, any at all. Scroll down to the comments. See how the commenters are all guests. Read what they say and how they act.

Do that, and you shall understand why people must be made to register.

This annoys me quite a bit, but really only when it comes to tech forums, cause you usually just go to them for the one problem/piece of information about a piece of hardware or software problem etc, but you have to create an account for a site you will never got too again.
