Why do I keep getting kicked?

I've been trying to play a game for the last half-hour, but every time I get into a game I get auto-kicked by Punkbuster. I have no idea what the problem is, I'm not cheating, I never knowingly downloaded a game hack, my name is expletive free, what could possibly be the problem?

Just kidding. Punkbuster just has a terrible history of being bad at it's job. Give it some time, or call it in.

Have you modded the game in any way? Do you have any third-party programs running in the background that PunkBuster might even accidentally identify as messing with the game? Is the game as up-to-date as possible?

Try closing every other strictly non-essential program. Preferably down to nothing but the OS, Firewall and Anti-viral software.

Has your account login to whatever game you are trying to play been locked or banned? You are certain that your CD/DVD-key has not been copied?

If problem persists and you've been honest about not using any game hacks, trainers, cracked EXEs, stolen autenthication keys etc, then sorry but you got hit by the PunkBuster for no reason at all (except for PunkBuster being bad at its job that is). It might fix itself, it might not.

I'm playing Battlefield 2142. I've never downloaded a single mod for any game, but I have installed this game on another computer using the same product key. The computer hasn't been used in months though, let alone had the game run on it.

i) What game are you playing. ~EDIT Nevermind, BF2142.
ii) Is your PB profile in good standing (if you don't know the answer to this then the answer is yes).
iii) Is it up to date?

Most companies that use PB don't update it in their patches (this includes BFseries, which Evenbalance have kept updating the PunkBuster files long after EA has stopped releasing major updates), you need to go to http://www.evenbalance.com/ and get the latest PunkBuster patch from there.

For BF2142 you need here http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=support-bf2142.php

I know this is immensely annoying, but if PunkBuster is dropping you for 'no reason' shortly after you join each game, the most likely reason is that your PB is not up to date and it's kicking you for a bad verify.

#Another edit. As long as you are logging in with the same player profile on the new PC, that shouldn't be a problem. BF2142 doesn't have any of the limited install rubbish in newer EA games, just 1 player account per CD key.

I don't use punkbuster, its useful but there are a fair few flaws in it, i'd suggest disabling punkbuster and just join servers that don't require punkbuster, there should be more than a few of them.

This might explain it, I'm not sure of the copyright measures BF 2142 has, but playing online with the same product key from two different IP-addresses just might do it.

Also,

the best case scenario is that this fixes it. If it doesn't, contact the game support staff or go ask around their forums if anyone else has had this problem and if so, how it was solved/are there instructions pertaining to it.
