I pretty much only play Male characters. I have tried to play a female character but I just can't do it. I always end up playing the game as I would if I were put into whatever situation I encounter and playing a female tends to break me out of that mindset and ruin a games flow for me.

Although my buddy plays as female characters all the time and it's pretty much the "dat ass" argument for him.

I can relate to this. I've been told I have the physique of a lesbian and it's not far off... except my beard and another significant male feature. In many cases I often find it easier to relate to a slimmer, agile, female character than a buff, burly, male. Faith from Mirror's Edge is a great example, I can relate to her much easier than I can to Marcus Fenix despite roughly the same effort going into either character's backstory. This is also why I gravitate towards elves and rogues in RPGs and more or less stay away from warriors and dwarves.

About half of my plays of a game is as a man, the other half as a woman. I think it gives the game a longer lifetime if you tries with both genders. As for my first play I think that the change I pick a male is a little bigger but not by must.

Personally I perfer to be as honest as possible when I play any game (I.E: playing female characters), but I really don't like it when Guys do G.I.R.L characters because they ask for weird favors or things to be handed to them (in one chat, they were asking for anyone to lead them all the way through ICC (which suggested at the time they weren't gunna help fight) and for some gold in exhange for something). Now in the case stated, they were probably a noob G.I.R.L but it seemed really weird to me.

Now of course I'm sure there are other reason, but from my own experince this is the only reason I can think of for some guys play female races.

I prefer to play men, cuz dey fyner to lewk at! Actually, since there weren't too many options when I was young I've just played men by default. If the characters are really customizable then I'll opt for a female, but just in general I'd probably choose a male.

My first character is usually a man but after that I usually make a woman, I think it adds to the role playing nature of games.

Simple. Games are about escaping reality, even if only a little. Being a woman is not something a man can just do (at least not without some expensive surgery and hormone replacement etc). It is something you can do in a video game tho. if you're going to go for fantasy and escape reality, you mights well explore what you can't in reality.

That and i agree with whoever said its a better view in 3rd person.

Besides most people i know play through their rpgs more than once. If you want a different experince you need to play a different character. Anything from stats to looks will help change the experience on subsequient playthroughs.

For me, it depends on which gender looks better. Whoever has the better clothes gets my pick. That, or if a certain gender pertains to a certain class or skill/bonus, such as the differences in characters for certain Resident Evil characters, or if I have to play a girl to be the healer (I love being a healer). It just depends.

I ask my brother this when I watch him play Mass Effect, he always says the same thing. "I would rather be watching a woman's ass running around for a few hours than some dude's." I have to say I agree with him.

If given a choice I always play males ingame, though more because it avoids this sort of questioning from others than any other reason.

If you're going to mention my avatar, and you do not know her, rest assured that there simply is no male equivalent, and as such it is warranted.

I don't. I always play as a male character. I am a man, therefor I play as one in a game.

Edit: I'm aware my avatar is a girl :p Doesn't change the fact that I always play as a dude. I just like to look at scene girls :D
Scene girls are gorgeous, if they can pull it off correctly.

OT: I don't. On my WoW account, I only have one female character. My Mage... who is my highest leveled and best character. But she's undead, so she's not great to look at. Just felt the name and class suited a female better. But sometimes, the male character is just beyond ugly, and we don't want to look at him.

Why do people keep making these threads?

Yeah, that's what I want to know.

Also, I play female characters a lot because I tend to find them easier to relate to.

well i generally have multiple characters, so ill generally have at least one female for the same reason a have a dwarf or klingon or whatever; diversity.

If im going to play a fantasy game, im going to play as something im not in reality; and on a more specific note, male character creators rarely come with a decent selection of facial hair, a problem female characters dont have.

I don't know. I sure don't. I'll rather relate to my character.
