Let me clarify - ME2 carries on the reputation of all Bioware games by having voice actors who sound like theyre reading a book, therefore all Men fail at acting... lol

Maybe it's because Jennifer Hale is the one of the best female voice actors out there and Mark Meer is average? It's got nothing to do with gender.

Um, I'll just leave this here.

You're letting one game influence your thought.
This. This so much.

Personally, I thought Killzone 2 had great voice actors(like, you know, ones with emotion?), but that's just me.
agreed, however they did the unfair advantage of having brian cox voicing visari and sean pertwee voicing radec

another example of good voice acting was syphon filter 1 through 3

I do not think that one game can represent an entire medium...

Just look at Nolan North :D
He represents the entire medium.
The ENTIRE medium.

Proof.

Seriously though, aside from this, he's a pretty damn good voice actor.
That is hilarious. XD

It's not so much that Mark Meer is bad, as Jennifer Hale is just untouchable.

But if it's good male voice actors you want OP, here you go, my favorites:

Stephen Fry:

Simon Templeman + Michael Bell

And Barry Drennen:

And don't get me started on male seiyuu in anime. Vegeta, Naraku, Aizen, Sephiroth...

Best example of male voice actors being good great unbelievably fantastic is the Legacy of Kain series. Concentrated awesome of Simon Templeman, Michael Bell, Tony Jay, Rene Auberjonois, and many others. Look it up on YouTube (there are 'movie-like' playthroughs) or play the actual games (except Blood Omen 2), they all are on PC. It's definitely among the best-voiced games of all time and the story is actually damn good, too.

It was quite amusing to hear Loghain in Dragon Age speak with Kain's voice and his apparent betrayal came as no surprise afterwards. Guess he's lucky his Ostagar coin landed on its edge.

That's funny, as I prefer the male Shepard to the female one.
Still, there are some examples of good male voice acting: Bioshock, Dragon Age, Metal Gear Solid...
So do I. Female Shepard isn't exactly bad, it's just male Shepard is so much better. Hale sounds permanently irritated and exasperated, which I guess is appropriate for a Renegade playthrough. Meer is generally calm, but not emotionless, which fits Paragon Spectre very well, and he also has a very awesome voice. He should do more games.

Freud: Tell me son, do you hate your penis? Because he's your friend.
-That was really creepy in my head and only got worse in text. I apologize for that. I know nothing will ever make up for that, but I sincerely hope that we can still be friends. I'll tend to disagree with you on this point. You're citing your opinion on one game, of one actor. On a game I disagree with you about. I liked the voice acting of male Shepard in Mass Effect. You're trying to generalize with a sample of one. Any scientist will poke holes in your theory faster then you can say "taco-monkey". Let me ask you this: Was Garrus' voice acting bad? Grunt? Legion? Joker?

Because the best English voice-actors are expensive and really busy. On the contrast theres is lot of good female actors on the market without jobs.

But... You saying the person who did Gman's voice was bad actor? Or Kleiner's voice? List goes on and on...

You shouldn't do opinion about voice-acting in games just by one game. Explore the game market and see some really talented voice-acting.

Whenever I play Mass Effect there are always certain lines said by Male Shepard that make me roll my eyes and shake my head, and whenever I hear Female Shepard say anything I feel like the game just got more badass, and it's the same in most video games. The men play the part but it's never anything more than that, women bring it on home EVERY TIME.

Being a man, I tend to prefer playing the man. But why can't we have the same degree of acting as the ladies?
We do have the same degree of acting. When Christopher Lee played Ansem in Kingdom Hearts 2 he stole the show from everyone else in the game. That is pry unfair though comparing a veteran actor like Christopher Lee to voice actors and voice actresses. I am just saying that he was able to voice his character very well.

A very good male voice actor is Crispin Freeman. He mainly voices anime characters but he does a great job voicing those characters. Seth Green did an excellent job voicing Joker in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.

Cue ass-like/attempting to be smart Reply: You're basing this on Mass Effect alone? Go make some more comparisons. Ask this question when you have better results to support this.

Roll in sexist reply: Because women have too many emotions to express!

Fade out with personal response: Because women are more kickass than people give them credit for. They'll almost always get underestimated unless you know right off to respect them, otherwise you learn fast, or you just flat out die, get shot, get beat to a pulp, or are otherwise hurt, tortured or killed in a variety of astounding or completely painful and horrifying ways.

It would be my personal rule as an Evil Overlord to NEVER underestimate any woman who walks into my domain with a large sword, halberd or anything and uses them with enough skill to take down a large group of bandits, monsters (as attested by witnesses or messengers/scouts) or indeed my own men with a little, or indeed no effort at all. I wont have my men sitting in a long line of areas waiting to be killed, I'd get as many non-essential soldiers, assassins, bandits, whatever and send them her way.
Unfair, I know, but Heroes need seriously unfair measures to take down >_>..

It's simple. Shitty voice actors will offer to do it for peanuts.
"If you're good at something, never do it for free".

Same premise in reverse.

This is not the first time I've had to do this this week...

Male Shepard is male. Male Shepard's voice actor was bad. Therefore, men are bad actors.

Hitler had a mustache. Hitler was evil. Therefore, everyone with a mustache is evil.

So you think Wrex would have been better if voiced by a woman?

What about Keith David, Lance Henricksen, Robin Atkin Downes, Brian Bloom and Dwight Schultz? Are they worse actors than women?

Have you played Mass Effect 2? Do you think Martin Sheen fails at acting compared to the woman who played Kelly Chambers and Spartan Harlot #1 in God of War?

IMDB describes Martin Sheen as "Multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Martin Sheen is one of America's most celebrated, colorful, and accomplished actors. Moving flawlessly between artistic mediums, Sheen's acting range is breathtaking".

You should e-mail IMDB to tell them they've got it wrong because he fails at acting due to his gender.

Well they just need to get a good actor, being a man is no excuse for bad acting, if you learn it you can be just as good.

But I do think women have the edge among average people, because they do it so often, all the fake smiles, fake interest, fake niceness, faked emotions, fake orgasms,... an average woman can do it all(and most of them are scary good at it).
